View Full Version : sc27 leaky drain valve

I have three SC27's side-by-side, and each one leaks out the drain valve to varying degrees. One of them, the worst leaker, also makes a nasty rattle sound when the drain motor runs.
Is this a rebuildable item? I saw a drive shaft/seal kit in the parts manual....
Is it normal for them to leak 'a little', or no?
Thanks,
John

It is normal for it to leak a little. It will start to leak more and more as more and more bra wires get stuck in the seal area of the valve. The seal, and shaft is not the valve body and wouldn't do you any good to replace.
The cost of a new valve is so liitle that it doesn't pay to change the body only.
First check to make sure nothing like bra wires are in the valve and if the leak is excessive then replace the valve. F380618 is the part #.
As for the rattle is could be the stainless steel splash cover of the drain valve coming loose and hitting the motor and gear assy. check at tighten as necessary.

Thanks as always, Marc. I would have taken it off and looked at it last night, but seeing as it was almost 1 am I decided it could wait.

I am not sure, they all leak a little? Get a 5/16 or flat head screw driver and tighten all the clamps. There should be no water, period. A washer like this should empty water in about 15 seconds or less. If not, you have drain issues.

I think there is some confusion going on here, is it leaking out of the drain valve (as in onto the floor) or leaking through the drain valve (as in going down the drain)?

Dripping onto the floor when the drain valve motor is actually running. Two of the machines, I don't think you'd ever notice because it really is just a few drips, but the third machine is noticeable on the floor.
That is also the one that rattles when the motor runs. I just have to dig into it when I have some time.

Ok, that changes the story. I thought you where talking about leaking (escaping) the valve into the drain. Yes the shaft/seal kit should correct you problem in this case.

Ah, ok. Looks like I'm in for another parts order, will it ever end? (I know the answer to that one!)
