View Full Version : Wasco W-124 Drain valve issue

I've got a W-124 that has been working fine for a long time until this week. All of a sudden the drain valve is not opening. If you play with it you can get it to open. It closes fine, the motor is good. I assumed it was binding a little so I took it apart and put more grease where the metal rod of the motor assembly cranks the plastic piston up. I was careful not to change the position of the spring. Put it all back together and it worked fine for one load. Now the same problem. So, I am guessing there is not enough tension on the spring when the valve is closed to fully open it.

What is the proper way to set the correct tension on the spring -- or could it be something else.

Thanks

I would change the motor & gear.

Why would you do that, the motor works fine and the gears don't appear to be binding when I move it by hand.

Do you value your time, Kirby?

Replace the gear!

For short term solutions, a few months, try this: Drill a small hole on side of the gear, sqeeze some oil into the gears, run the drain a few times to spread oil around.

I have had that happen number of times where drain valve would close but intermittently would not open. When I push the spring couple times, it would open up the drain valve. Sometimes spraying WD40 on the gear would solve the problem for a day or two.

Occasionally I would find broken bra-wire stuck in the boot.

Since you took it apart, I assume you cleaned the rubber boot etc.

I would just replace the motor and gear.

Change the motor and gear, Typical scenerio of a bad one. Also, go dependo origional, unless you want to change it again in 6 weeks. ( stay away from the Korean M & G 's.)

Changed motor and gear this morning and everything is fine now. What bugs me is that the old gear assembly appears to be fine. It spins freely by hand, so why is it causing problems in use. I know these things are cheap -- this is not a money issue, I just would like to understand what the real problem is with the gear that it won't open when in the machine but turns freely by hand.

Life is too short. Toss it out and try to forget it.
