Does anyone have a suggestion for removing soap and scale buildup in wasco soap boxes? I have tried all kinds of cleaners to no avail. Thought about using an acid (soap box removed) anyone try this? I know a hammer and chisel would work but looking for an easier way out.

Try vinegar.... and then let it run a cycle and clean the inside of the washer too....

Put a mixture of hot water and vinegar into a sprayer like this one( Pictured below) it works great and not only for this purpose.

Think out side of the BOX ;)

Does anyone know of a cheap, effective, and easy (or at least two out of those three) way to repair the threads in the soap dispenser on Maytag MAH21's that hold the four screws that are visible when you lift the dispenser lid and secure the dispenser (and the lid assembly) to the machine?

The most effective way we've found to clean the dispenser is to take out the screws and lift off the lid assembly to get at the various removable pieces in the dispenser so we can wash them. But now we're finding the some of the threads in the plastic dispensers are getting so worn, either through accidentally overtightening the screws or just plain old wear, that the screws won't tighten up even a litle bit. These particular machines are only 18 months old and I really don't want to start replacing the dispenser bodies if I can avoid it.

I'm not at all familiar with that washer or how thick the plastic is, but my first thought is to put metal threaded inserts into it, so you are only messing with the plastic threads once. The repetitive stuff is then with the metal threads.

Go to www.mcmaster.com and search for part number 99362A400 or for 'threaded insert'.
Tell them you saw their link on Coinwash.com
Not sure if this would work in this application but it is a thought.

An insert would work if you have the room. Just make sure it is stainless or brass for corrosion.

How about just tapping the threads to a slightly larger hole and get a larger screw??

Go out and purchase a portable steamer and use it to clean the soap disp. That and a little water, spray bottle and a brush/toothbrush.

Marc,

You took the words right out of my mouth. I use an item callled the Shark it is a steamer I bought about 2 years ago at

Target. I believe it was less than $100.00 with all the attachments. It does a great job and doesn't take long. Just be careful folks not to get your hand near the steam. It's very hot and will give you a sever burn.

Good Luck,

I am getting tired of cleaning out the bleach tray when people dump Clorox II POWER or other powder in it. Maybe when the screws wear out I will just leave the big hole without the cups for people to dump thier stuff in.

you probably can't guess i had to take a soap compartment apart tonite for the umteenth time...
