While I fix most washer problems myself at my Mat which have all Wascomat Front Loads, I have never worked on top load at all.
Now my home GE Topload has a problem and I have no clue how to open it or access anything.
The problem is it does not spin and does not drain water.
My guess is drain valve is clogged abd therefore it does not go into spin cycle. Question is how do I access drain valve on my GE Toploader or how do I fix this problem.
Thanks,
Coinwash

MSKLAUNDRY.

Did you make sure the lid switch it working. Check belt if not direct drive. Check pump for blockage.
To get the front off a small screwdriver in between the front panel and the top panel at each end (there are clips there) and pull forward.
Good luck.

Thanks for your help guys. It seems my wife tried one more time and it seemed to have worked fine this time. I will certainly check out the lid switch. I will keep you posted.

My GE Toploader is an older model where the top door is 45 degrees in the front corners.
I have couple of questions:
1) Will top load go into extract spin even if the basket is full of water?
2) What would it typically do if it cannot drain the water? will it bypass the final extract spin and complete the cycle with water still in the basket?
3) does it try to drain water before it goes into high speed spin cycle or does it drain the water while it is spinning?
What I noticed was that it rinses and agitates fine however, during final spin cycle, I can hear the timer motor moving but otherwise it does not go into spin cycle and basket remains full of water. At the end of the cycle, it starts the next cycle instead of just stopping after the cycle is finished.
Thanks,

1) Will top load go into extract spin even if the basket is full of water?
Yes. The pump is motor driven. During agitate the motor turns in one direction, and the pump recirculates the water to the wash tub. During spin, the motor reverses and pumps water out of the machine while spinning the tub.
2) What would it typically do if it cannot drain the water? will it bypass the final extract spin and complete the cycle with water still in the basket?
Yes, it will just spin slowly due to the weight of the water and the friction. If you don't have a good seal at the top of the tub, the water will end up being spun out onto the floor!
3) does it try to drain water before it goes into high speed spin cycle or does it drain the water while it is spinning?
While spinning.
If the tub is full of water after the cycle and the machine is making no attempt at spinning, it could be the timer or the motor. Since the machine is advancing into the next cycle, you definitely have a timer problem. Is the machine spinning/draining between wash and rinse? Is it happening on all cycles? If not, there could be something wrong with the mechanism to reverse the motor. If the motor is reversing OK and the machine is trying to spin, but no water is draining, the rubber flexible coupler between the pump and the motor could be ripped or loose. Finally, there could be something in the outer tub blocking the drain.
Older GE washers are the easiest machines to work on. I have 6 in my 'mat and love them. You should have no problem getting your home machine cleared.
