For as long as I can remember 2 of our Wasco 74 washers have been making an extra noise with one of their tumble directions. This noise is not real loud but its enough for the customers to comment & notify us. We have always assured them that it is just a quirk & doesn't affect the tumble speed or quality of their wash.

Has anyone ever solved a similar mystery noise? I don't think it is a motor bearing because during the spin the sound is normal & smooth. Could the windings be the issue? They are single phase 110v.

Make sure that the motor pulley and the tub pulley are lined up with one another. Be sure to use the correct belt and not some cheap knock off belt like most supply houses sell. If you can get a cogged belt its worth the extra money. Make sure the spring or tension mechanism is attached and adjusted as necessary. Be certain that no water is dripping on the belt as that will cause it to slip. If your washer uses 2 belts and one breaks, replace both at the same time as the new one will be tighter than the remaining old one and it will be as if you are still using only one belt, (the new one).

It alway amazes me That people will skimp on the belt just to save a few bucks. In the long run they actually spend more money because they have to change them more often not to mention the labor involved in changing them.

What brand of belts do you prefer? Where do you buy them?
