This morning, while I lay soundly asleep, the main store has a customer accident. This particular customer is one of our favorites and comes into the mat daily. She was laundering some items and they caught fire in the dryer. She stuck her hand into the dryer and burned her hand. I got the call first and spoke to her and the attendant. She had greasy towels amoungst her items. Daves wife is a nurse and suggested I take her to the Urgent care facility and not access the injury ourselves. I went down to the mat and she had left. I haven't seen her hand and do not know the extent of the injury. It sounds like it could be between a 2nd degree and a 3rd degree burn. She knew I was on my way to take her, but she opted to leave. I do not think there will be a liability issue with her besides paying necessary medical bills if she chooses to go to the doctor, but you never know.

This is not the first time an issue like this has happened. Each mat has had the very same thing happen with greasy kitchen towels being laundered. They easily combust. We will pay for the items in her laundry that was ruined, but what can be done to eliminate this type of problem. It can be expensive, dangerous as well as a potential liability issue if it happens to the wrong customer. We hate having a sign for everything, but what can be done to protect the mat from a future issue???
