I have a SQ FL, SC27MD, that trips a breaker when it tries to kick into high speed.

Is there any chance this is NOT the motor? I don't relish shelling out $650 for a motor only 1 week into my mat ownership....

P.S. my dryer problem is fixed. pulled off the high voltage igniter lead, ohmed it out, probed a few voltages, put lead back on, voila it starts working again.

single phase or 3 phase?

single phase. The tech guy mentioned a clogged drain, but it seems to drain fine during the 'slow speed' operation during the prewash and wash cycle.

The instant it tries to go into high spin speed though, the breaker trips, before the basket has moved at all. One time it tripped the leg 'A' breaker, I tried again it tripped leg 'B'.

A&B ?it should be a 20amp double pole breaker

That's just my made-up terminology. It is 2 breakers in the panel, rather than 1 ganged-together breaker.

Dang, looks like I'm in for a new motor. Checked the drain, no problems, then noticed the motor has some charred windings.

Anybody know a reasonable source for such a beast, or if it can be repaired anywhere in the chicagoland area?

Thanks,

John

My Dexter maxi load does same thing when it start to kick in
high spin cycles, work fine for first 2 weeks after installed. Call rep and they said up breaker from 20a to 30A. You may want to up your
circuit breaker to see if it help.

But upping a breaker from 20A to 30A w/o upgrading wiring is a no-no!

I'm picking up my re-built motor tonight, anxious to get the machine up and running again :)

Not that this is helpful news to anyone, but my machine is back up and running as of 1/2 hour ago.

My near-the-entrance, one-of-three $2.75 machines (high for my mat) is back up for the weekend.

I'm a happy camper.

If anyone is looking to get a motor rewound in Chicagoland, I can recommend Elmot, inc. on Fullerton. For $400 my motor is like new (at least so far, I've got my fingers crossed heavily).
