I have a Wascomat W185 that has an intermittent problem. It is getting stuck in the soak cycle. The drain stays open and the water keeps running and it doesn't advance. This only happens occasionally and I cannot figure out what is causing the problem. I have only had this happen about 1 out of 3 times when I was testing it.

try this:

The washer will not progress because the drain stays open and won't allow water to collect in the drum, activating the pressure switch (I forget the name of the exact name of the switch)to shut off the valves and advance the cycle.

I believe it is a very small peice of debris caught in the hose for the pressure switch located at the drain. The small black hose attached to the drain should be taken off and cleaned. as well ast the drain assembly. You can test the pressure switch by blowing air into the small black hose (at the drain connection) and listening for a l clicking noise that signifies the switch is operating and the hose is free of debris.
I also remember removing the drain several times and finally disassembling it for one good cleaning before eliminating the problem. I never found the debris lodged anywhere, but have not had the problem in the past year or two after i removed the drain and cleaned it well.

Thanks for your reply, I will look into the drain and pressure hose. Haven't had any more problems when I test it but am still hesitant to take it out of order, especially when it was a Sunday morning when it went bad on a customer:)

I have a Wasco store and a bra wire usually gets stuck in the drain valve. Take off the big black hose, stick your fingers in there and feel around for it. This is most likely your solution. I found a razor in the drain valve also.

I assume your Wascomat has the "pancake" drain valve... If so, make sure that you get ALL of the debris out of the valve. I have pulled a handful of junk from one of these valves. Just because you pull a bra underwire doesn't mean you removed everything.

Remove the cover and watch the valve in action. Of course, clean the valve thoroughly. But if the problem still occurs, make sure the valve is closing every time. You may have a problem with the burkett control.
