beginner coinslot question

I have a front-loader speedqueen, model SC27MD2, that has a little bar blocking coins from being accepted. I close and lock the door, the bar stays right where it is.

Could someone enlighten me as to probable causes?

As I say I am a beginner - very mechanically inclined, but a newcomer to commercial laundry equip.

Either the lockout coil is no good or the arm is getting stuck. check to make sure you get 120 volts at the coil when the door is locked. It is also possible that the door switch is not being activated when you close the door which will also cause the same result. There are other possible causes but that is a good start.
