I have several gen 4 machines. I was wondering if anyone has tried the following. Rather than waiting for the main wash to start and adding liquid soap, in the soap box, putting a small, maybe 3/16 dam, to retain liquid soap for the main wash. Also, I was thinking about putting a key switch on the outside of the machine to advance through to different cycles. This would eliminate the need to remove the top and do the screwdriver thing. Any thoughts?

Two of my most often thoughts. A soap dish should be made to retain liquid till the main wash,(where were the engineers on that one) and I have always wanted a key bypass switch on my frontloaders. Guess we are on the same wavelength.

1st idea:I won't add anything in soap box,if it got loss,it will stock your drain valve.
2nd idea:I saw a lot people done it,you should buy ACE style lock since they are not too deep, soap won't get into as much.ACE lock can be picked,no good for coin box but ok for switch.

Putting a baffle in the soap box could cause the water to hit it and spray out the top of the machine. Not good, especially if your soap box seals are marginal. The additional turbulence in the soap box could also cause excessive foam to percolate out the top.

Yes, have thought of both.

I have a spare soap box. I may work on that. (Might be able to actually make some money selling that mod.)

You can get a Medeco switch lock. They sell them for magnetic door locks, but a bit pricy ($80).

I'm sure your local locksmith could find a good compromise.
