I need to remove a 50lb SQ washer, which is on a 6" platform, I want to be able to roll it out of the way, my question is can anyone suggest what I can use to move this thing around. I could create a dolly with casters and 2x4, but I am wondering if anyone has mastered something to do this.
If you don't have to go too far a cheap way to get this thing around is to use several pieces of pipe cut to about 3.5 feet each, you'll need at least four or five pieces it will roll like its on wheels. As you pass over the pieces pick up the one in the back and place it at the front-repeat. Or use a pallet jack if you have access to one.

Rent a pallet jack.
4 wheel dolly cost about $20-40,you may need 2.
If you know how to move,a good hand tuck cost about $40-100,a very good hand truck from vending supplier cost $350-450.
A cheap pallet jack cost $300.
I like to buy my own tools since I will use them again later.

my installer uses a pallet jack, and 2x4's, sometimes with pipe to move stuff around. The jack does the heavy part
If you don't have enough room in front of the machine to manoeuver (sp?) a pallet jack,
Slip some 2 by 4's under the machine, long enough that you can slide the machine down off the six inch base to the floor, onto the waiting broomhandles (cut to 3 foot) same idea as the pipe mentioned above, but I never have pipe, but I always have broomhandles

VERY clever!~
I lived in New Hampshire growing up, and heard about Salem. Mass. I guess there was a witch hunt or two in the 1800's.. the broom thing comes more from the Wizard of Oz, that scary movie I watched when I was young.
no matter how you decide to do it, you'll need two men to do this work. Although pallet jack is recommended method it is not easily accessible. So, I would suggest making or buying the dolly that you're thinking about. I have moved my dryers like that and it is quiet handy. if you going to invest in something you might as well invest in a dolly that you can use over again.
You may also need to get a grinder with cutting wheel to cut the rusted out bolts.
