Vero Beach area is pounded, that is where Reynolds Smith has his mats. He has been very active in CLA ad the state chapter, I wish him the best of luck.
I lost power for awhile yesterday, and the Storm was 180 miles away., still wind bands were strong. I think we have a good chance to take a direct hit from the east, it shows the storm just north of me, but the storm should be 75 mile winds or less by then, still, you don't go out in that type of weather.
I locked down 2 mats last nite, one still had people doing laundry, so I decided to go in the morning to lock it, as it is just down the street. I got there at 8 am, a lady was doing laundry, I wanted to lock up, she said she had to go to work tonight, so I told her I would be back in 20 Min's to lock it down, trying to be nice. I go back 20 Min's later and a guy is drying clothes. I guess he must have had some in the washers the same time the lady did. I told him I was closing NOW, and he had to take his stuff and leave, as this storm approaches I don't want to be driving around in it.. He says sure, called me an asshole, and said he would never come back... people do truly amaze me! I am not risking my business or life for anyone. Good riddance.
I hope others here in Florida fare well.

Good Luck and stay safe !!!!
Just a thought,
With the cleanshow convention in Orlando next june, is that the start of hurricane season ?
I think even though hurricane season may start in the summer months typically the most dangerous storms form in late august and september. I wouldn't worry about booking your trip to orlando.

which hurricane are we talking about? I forget? Seems like we get one every other week now.. :(
about Clean '05, come on down. The bad storms seem to come late in the summer, so no worry.

Up here in Long Island N.Y. we have had some large gust of wind. An old oak tree (must have been 75 years old) was blown over in my back yard with a few others. Not near what you all got, but enough to see Mother Nature go at it.
With Hurricane Charley we were pretty lucky we lost power for a few hours at night. But with Frances it is a whole different story we have been with out power at the mat for 6 days now. The frustrating thing is that my competition has been up and running for 4 days now and he is just down the street. His place is packed. I feel sooo bad for the people that are going there. Half of the machines do not work. They will take the money but will not work and there is no one there for them to complain to.
We had an oak tree that lost a limb. It came down and disconnected our line from the main line. They are in no hurry to get us up and running because we are only a single business that gets feed from that line. There is no estimated time. They only thing that FPL can say is "When we can get resorces ..."
How frustrating - but it is a nice break:
No need to set the alarm for 5:30 AM
No screaming kids to chase
No gum to scrap off the floor
No candy and candy wrappers to pick up
No soda to mop up
No dirty underwear and socks to sort
No over sudsing to "towel" up
NO KIDS. I mentioned that already but that is worth mentioning twice
BUT ALSO NO MONEY : o (
But at least we did not have much damage at all. Just a lot of mess to clean up. Our mat is on 3/4 acre and is covered in huge oak trees. So lots to clean up.
My thought are with everyone in the effected areas. Hopefully Ivan will not be too bad. It is already estimated to hit Florida. The only question is "How Bad."
And I had to ask the question a while ago about why Insurance companies consider Florida a high risk area. When I think I understand now.

Acttually is gets eaiser to get ready for each new one every week or
so (: I have kept my boat hurricaned tied since the first one, many people just leave the boards up on their homes, all my stuff has been "readied". No long gas lines, I bet I could go to Home Depot and buy plywood right now. People are very tired and not even paying attention to the warnings now. This one is tracking the same as Frances. People in the middle of the state will get wacked 3 times.
After 4 storms, I fear the next insurance bill more than the hurricanes now..
