I am in the Bay Area, California. I am currently in the process of investigation of the coin laundry business. I met someone a month ago at one of the coin laundry classes that teaches the coin laundry owners on how to repair their machines and this person told me about this site.
Well, I was wondering if any one could suggest some good advice on how to get into to a coin laundry.
What to watch out for and if this business is a good business to get into?
So far I know that you want a good lease, watch out for the area, and that you want it near your living location. No more than 1.5 hours drive. That's already too much driving to consider, I've heard.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
have you looked in the "new bie" section? there's plenty of information already discussed. Please try their first and post your questions after research. In a nutshell, you need to look 3 things when looking to purchase or build a mat: location, Location, and LOCATION. If totally new in the business, you should look to purchase existing, not build new. Start by visiting the stores in your areas and see which one you like and if you like it ask the owner if he wants to sell. 70% chance they will say "yes' If the prices is right! post back your findings and we'll help you with the price! it's that simple!!

Hell I don't know how to spell your name let alone how to pronounce it. So let it be said that I am replying to the originator of this thread.
I must tell you that the education you learn within the pages of this website may or may not gain you any further appointments.
Please be aware that confrontation of services may not be well greeted. If this is so, we would like to ensure our partonage and appreciation for our services. We look forward to meeting and greeting our ideas to flourish as a group. Thanks for the opportunity. Kitty

I think she was saying that to enter this biz, you need some cash, and/or assets., and that we have discussed many ways in the past, reading the board from back to front is a good step. Also she was implying most owners here are not going to tell you how to set up a l'mat over the internet for free, and you should be prepared to consult your own area experts to determine the business you may want to buy, as every location is different. That said, there is plenty of advice to go around to serious newbies. hopefully kitty will fill in any spots I missed.

Location is the biggest key to a successful mat. I know the business in and out, and I have now doubt I could analyze a profitable location whether it be a ground up location or established location. However, good and profitable locations are few and far between. Location has been my biggest hurdle. Many locations that are for sale or available for entering a market are few and far between.
I suggest homework well before the opportunity becomes available.
Those interested in the business should be researching the bus. long before they consider jumping in and buying or building. As much as it annoys me, Petes signature "if it was easy everyone would do it" are words to consider when contemplating the thought.
