attendant notices last night that one of the washers closest to the wall had about 1/4 inch sand in the bottom of it (being in florida sand is always a problem - but never this bad). She said it looked like someone just dumped a bucket in there. She got up what she could then ran it through a cycle. But today I keep noticing sand in the same washer. I keep cleaning it out but the next time I look there is more. This is only happening with one washer.

Is this something to worry about or will it eventually go away.

You are only cleaning the inner tub. The outer tub probably has sand and it's working up into the inner tub. Try running the washer a few times empty. People often bring towels and blankets from the beach without even shaking them out. If they do skake them out it's usually on the floor in front of the washer.

i would open the drain and run water though it , the sand could be still be in the lower pan or drain line

although I don't have experience with this problem, but have you tried using the wet/dry vacuum? The suction power is powerful enough to pull a screw so it should be able to pull sand from the outer drum through the holes. Also, take a hose and run water all around the inside of the drum. Lastly open the drain valve and make sure there's isn't any additional sand built up there.

I am with Glenn. Most of my sand ends up on the floor before it hits the washers. If ths is a top load, then some sand has settled in the outer tub. I would not worry to much, let the customers use the thing, it will all rinse out. If not, run a special on "stone washed jeans" type thing..
