I had a similiar problem at my mat. Then I found a solution that was reasonable.

I would count your blessings if you can get by without a restroom, it is required here by the county.. people do not choose a l'mat for its' restroom, only the homeless do. Remember, about 70% of your customers live within 1 mile, ( assuming it is not a little town) they can drive home if they have to.
My mat has no public restroom. Although I do have a restroom its behind the dryers and I would have to take 2 dryers out to make it a public restroom, I am not going to do that. I do get some complaints from customers, but they are back next week. This store has been here for 25 years without one and that's the way its going to stay. I also have no air-conditioning, they complain about that too, but are back next week. But I am working on getting the place air-conditioned a costly little venture. And I do have some competition, 3 other mat's within about 3 miles of mine, they have a restroom and are air-conditioned.
They know when they come to my mat there is no out of order signs, and its clean.

Is it true that if you sold a mat that housed no restrooms and the new owner closed the mat for renovations for more than 3 days they would be reqquired to provide restrooms.including handicap facilities prior to re-opening?

Ms. Kitty.....
Yes it is true but only if it is after the fifth tuesday of the month while raining in the middle of the 2 inning of a doulbe header where the home team dosn't show up...
Honest it on the books as a law.....

Jim honey, your poor wife must want to bitch slap you sometimes for the amount of sarcasm thats flows from your mouth! :)
I was serious, when I had my restaurant, as long as the establishment had not been closed during the transfer and opening under new ownership I was not required to bring the building upto code, ie handicapped restrooms....is this the same for any type of business? Is a mat required by state or local laws to have individual/handicapped restrooms?

I guess the guidelines for this board don't apply to Administrator's....lol
(and by the way she knows when I'm joking).
I can not speak for your state but here in NY it goes by the age of the building, ie.. If the building was built before 19XX (XX= whatever year the handicap laws went into effect) then you are not required to install handicap accessable restrooms (It is considered grandfathered in). But if you are adding restrooms to a building, no matter what the age is of the building, you have to have them handicap accessable.
