View Full Version : Galaga arcade game
Does anyone have experience with this game.
Every few days on the screen where it shows credit 0 before you insert a quarter to play it will say credit ff and will not register the quarter.
If I turn the machine off and back on it resets to 0 and will work normal for a few days until it comes up Credit ff again.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have had a similar problem with my Pac Man. Sometimes a connection will come loose off one of the boards. So check to make sure all the connections are tight. Make sure you exercise care and don't push too hard or the board will crack. Also make sure your coin drop is set properly so that it is not touching the top of the metal slot. That can cause a short. If either one of these don't solve your problem, I can ask my game mech what he thinks. Keep me informd of your progress.

If you have an original Galaga game then the edge card connector as BWJR said could be the problem. There is a lot of current going through those pins on that connector and if it is loose or not making good contact it could cause the board to malfunction. What we used to do with those is take one or more small c clamp and gently tighten it around the edge connector which is similar to the Jamma connector as used in todays games.
If this doesn't work then you can alway send it in for service to a distributor such as Betson.

Tell them you saw their link on Coinwash.com
I have found a couple loose wires in the past and think the problem is fixed but a couple days later it will come up credit ff again.
BWJR, I will take a close look at the coin acceptors because once in awhile when I touch the key to the lock the game will reset.
You may have something there.
Thanks, Kevin

The key to the door followed by a reset is very common. Those games, Pacman, MS Pac Man, etc all had the same problem. It is caused by a static discharge from you when you touch the machine. All of the Midway games in that cabinet suffered from that problem. You'll have to live with it. When I worked for Namco, we tried everything to stop it from happening but never really could stop it completely.
Marc has described it very well. The only other thing on the edge connector is that it may have to be refoiled or hopefully not cracked.

Galaga,Mspac are over 20 years old, after check the old connector,it could be the power supply, dirty chips, dirty chips socket....but you can find replacement parts very easy.
When they are going bad, those old boards can drive you crazy,I always replace with a new one trade or sell the old one ,the old boards belong to collecter not location to make money.
If you have time, you can remove the socketed chips, clean the legs,it may help but becareful, the chips are 20 years old too,the legs brake easy.check power supply,it should have 5.1-5.2vdc and 12Vdc.
If you don't have time, you can buy brand new Galaga board to replace it or have the old board serviced.
About 4,5 different Galaga board were made,if you have a 22/44 pins edge connector and a 3 pins connector,it is a Midway/Namco Galaga.
