Has anyone ever tryed the Roper (made by Whirlpool) from Lowes?
And what prices are you getting from Dist. on Whirlpool ?
A Dist. here is asking 640.00 with v8 coin slide and coin box.
anything made by whirlpool, GE for commercial laundry does not belong in mat. If you're looking to save money spend few more and get SQ/Huebesch or few additional buck will get you Maytag Tops. If you have a need to buy more than 5 tops, then you're not saving money by having tops - go for front loader.
If you're set on getting whirlpool. I have 6 computerize 3 year old that I will happily sell you for $350 each. I have friend in the business who has lots of GE's for $350 as well, also in good condition.

Roper is just a name. It is all WP under the hood.
I have not heard of Roper in quite a while. I thought they may have been discountinued but I guess not.
From what I remember they are a cheaper brand made by Whirlpool as you already mentioned. When I say cheaper I don't mean less expensive although they are, I mean they are built cheaper...plastic parts where normally metal parts are, etc..
Definatly not for commercial use as with GE. Recently I passed on a mat that had all (24) GE tops, that were 2 years old, and only 11 were still in operation.
Spend more now or you will spend even more later.

2cents:
You rarely/occassionally see a L-Mat with GE's (and typically an owner eyeing a new brand of toploader),
nevertheless, they are rare.
You NEVER see a laundromat with Whirlpools.
That should tell you something.
Does it tell you that Whirlpool is bad. Of course not. It tells you that they don't make a durable commercial machine.
(i dont think they're too bad as apartment machines, but the usage patterns there are quite distinct)
If money is tight to buy new:
Buy a used SpeedQueen ($200 to $ 300) or a used Maytag ($250 to $ 400). Either will give years more of service even used, than the other brands - and, as important - when repairs are needed, it will be worth putting more money in them.

There are some SQ models to stay away from, tranny problems, rusted out tops, things like that. My money is going into Maytag tops. New, about $800. Used? I did like the SQ circa before '93 or so, but now they are old and not worth messing with to much. Almost worth rebuilding, depenging on the store volume and your situation.

Roper is a low end whirlpool derivative. It might be OK for a small apt building, but not for a commercial mat.
If you really want tops, stick with Maytag. Easy to fix, rarely break. Of course, the real question is why are you buying tops anyway.

I have bought whirlpool the last several years and have had good luck, we put 27 in store next to college with high usage and in 3 yrs changed 1 trans and 3 water pumps,I figure I will keep them another 3 or 4 years and junk them and buy some more.pay half the price for whirlpool and change twice as much as maytag but have a new machine twice as often which your customers notice you spending money on mat.
