View Full Version : Maytag top loaders take the socks
I have owned about three different types of top loaders in the 22 years since I have been in the Laundry Business. I have found that the Maytag Top eats more socks between the tubs than any other top. This of course can contribute to belt or even motor burn out and worst of all possible fire. Now that being said, I think Maytag makes an excellent top, but I wish they would correct the problem. My question is, does anyone else seem to have this problem and do you have a solution for such. The cause of this problem is over-loading the washer and if you are unattended, well good luck.

In the last year I have only taken one sock out of a pump in all the 20 Maytag tops I have.
Other than that I replaced one pump in another machine and a few injector nozzles that started to leak.
I'm almost as lonely as the Maytag repairman.

I never get socks stuck in my machines. Maybe 1 about ten years ago.
Mine seem to get caught at the top between the inside and the outside tub. They are not making it to the pump.

Perhaps you low income customers want to put there whole families clothes into one toploader for a buck.
Marc,
That is exactly what I was thinking. The lower income customers will jam all washers. I spent 8 years in Camden running a mat of mine and they jammed everything. Who cares if the clothes get clean. There biggest complaint was not enough water in the washer. Gee I wonder why! This must be the case, but it never happens in the SQ since they have that plastic rim close to the top.

I never had to unsock a mayatg yet. Not even sure how to get inside them. Only have a couple years on a few, so maybe not the volume going thru. Maybe raise the price of the top higher than the other machines so you force business away from them. I did that, it worked pretty good. I still get a complaint, like soap all over my clothes once in awhile. I ignore it as I am sweeping the floor, they think I am the janitor ( and I am ) while I watch them fill two laundry carts full of wash from 1 top loader. The best are the ones who are smart, they wait till the machine runs awhile, then go and "hand wash" for a few mins to make sure everything got wet......
