I received a call at 1 am telling me that there are a bunch of kids on the roof of my Laundromat, So the time i get there , there was nothing and the police seen nothing. No big deal right...... A few days later the rains came and came and came, by morning my one section of the mat was under water , it was unbelievable, 6 Dryers destroyed along with floor and other damages.

At first i really didnt know what i was goin to do, Insurance companies scare the H out of me, but since there was at least 30k plus in damages i had too, now im sitting here waiting to hear what will and wont be covered and crossing fingers that my premiums dont skyrocket, ( 1st claim in 30yrs ) if that means anything to them.

Has anyone else have had this situation >? Any Advice or positive results are most welcomed :)

MSI,

Sorry to hear about your problems!

What exactly did they do? Is there any way to prevent recurrence?

How did they get up there?

Well i have a semi flat roof (Rubber roof) ant the got onto it Via emergency steps that have hand rails that they climb onto to get onto it . While on the roof i had a few of my dryer stacks kicked in and that turned into a funnel for the water to shoot through, but really to look at it with the bar eye you really couldnt see anything all that bad. But later i seen they must of played Tackle football on it ............... What a mess

I used to party on the roof, but can't say I caused any real problems, todays youth are so destructive.

Rubber roofs are bad news, we started putting them on everything in the '80s but later we found out that anything can damage them.

If a service person drops a tool or steps on a screw, you've got a hole. If the service person drips a little oil it eats up the rubber.

We only use composite or built up now, they are a tough proven technology.

Interesting. I'm taking bids right now to have my roof redone (fixed). I was looking into this poured in place roofing. I don't think it is rubber.

Anyone had experience with this kind of roof...

What interests me more is the WHITE roof top. This is supposed to cut the roof temp by 60%. Have any of you experienced good things (or Bad) with a white top. Or this particular system?

Over the phone he said $2.50 per sq.ft.
This includes all prep work and 'repairs' to the old roof.
supposed to be guaranteed for life as long as every 15 years you reapply something. said the warranty is transferable to new owner.

The main reason for the WHITE is to prevent the number one cause of failure with black/dark roofs.
The Solar/UV rays weaken and eventually destroy the integrity of black-colored roofs.
That's the cause of the fissure-like cracking, which then permits water to enter.
Unfortunately because bitumen, asphalt, butyl, and other products are black, and also because the roofing industry was quite happy to return & do the same job 10-15 years later, white was never used.
The reason you often saw gravel-topped roofs, was so that the gravel rock could slow the progress of UV penetration into the bitumen.

White (or light-gray aluminum) products are the growing trend.

Nevertheless, they still are not impervious to heavy heeled young people :)
