This is a difficult question because it really depends on where you are located..

Speaking for myself nothing has really generated much business...I think I have tried everything from internet to flyers and received little response.

Part of the problem is, a laundromat has a small majority of the population it can market too, people without washers and dryers (low income). 95% of our business comes from this market.
Sure you can get people in that have washers and dryers when they want to do their comforters but that is something they are going to do if you advertise or not. It may make them come to your mat instead of your competitors.

I voted "other" but could have voted "outdoors" as in the sign outdoors in front of my mat. I think signage is very important, really a key aspect of advertising. First impressions and all. In a small town an ad in the local rag may be OK, in any town with more than 3 mats proabably not. Yellow pages? I think you need a phone first. And I have that also, only pay phones.

If you can own a payphone in Romania then that would be great.

we have had wonderful success using the 15 second ads that cable television sells for their tv listings channel. it is quite inexpensive and best of all...people new to the city use the tv listings channel, so it really attracts new business into the mat.

the best advertising is word of mouth. we have had our mat for 15yrs. and never spend a penny on ads. i am thinking about adding an annex to handle all the business.

A long time ago we gave a flower out to each mother on Mothers Day. In addition we served coffee and donuts. It went a long way and many new faces showed up in the weeks to follow letting us know that they heard of the friendly jesture.
