I realize this may not pertain to this particular message board, but hey what the hell?
I am looking into building out a new dry cleaner within California, and am wondering what I will need (equipment, supplies, hangers, etc..) Can anyone provide any information on what is required to build out a new store, and what the estimate costs are. I'm looking at approximately 1000 - 1500 sq ft.
I appreciate your input in advance.
eesquil,
If you're looking to get into an incredibly interesting and challenging business,
might I suggest getting into the coin laundry business !
Of course, if you're just interested in money, go with that drycleaning thing.

The best thing to do is find a distributor to take you thru the process.Finding a good one may be hard but research it.Buying equipment is easy, finding someone to back it up as well as guide you for the long term is the key..Take it from a distributor.Good luck!!!
If I was going into the drycleaning business where I knew nothing about the business, I would first learn what it takes to run a drycleaning business. Besides the licensing, fume code issues - you're going to have major issues with hiring/retaining skilled workers. If it was me, I would start with a drop store - realize the potential and then consider making my own plant. With the cost of drycleaning equipment, I think you'll find change your mind and go in the direction of laundromat business - slow but steady income - less labor intensive than anyother service oriented business.
