View Full Version : Storing Spare Parts

I have to re organize the "Back Room", and make some sense to all those parts we accumulate over the years. I'm looking for a neat, organized system that looks better than various sized boxes and bags stacked on an assortment of different shelving units. Naturally I don't want to spend too much money on a part of the mat that doesn't generate income, but it would be nice to know exactly what I have, and what machine it fits
Anyone have some good advice, maybe even a picture?
Thanks,
NJ Jon
I'm waiting for the answers too.
One of my mats has a back area with 15' ceilings !
(though only about 100 sq. ft floor area)
Maybe I'll try to put together something that will hang comforters or rugs to dry overnight.
I don't know if this is obvious or not, but I have shelving units in my back room.
On one unit I have parts for my SQ tops..
On another I have parts for all my SQ dryers. On my third unit I have parts for my SQ and Wasco Triple loaders.
All parts are seperated and cleaned (if taken from machines I previously scraped).
Most are in plastic bins that I purchased from Target and Kmart right after xmas...(usually on sale in early Jan.)
And most important thing is, everything is labeled.
It looks pretty good...nice and neat...and easy to find what I need.

From reading the posts, it seems like someone could make a good living organizing back rooms!
Thanks Jim for you advice. What depth are you shelves, and how high are the shelving units? Also, what quality and material (wood or steel)? I assume you secure them to the walls to prevent tip overs.
The bins sound like a good idea, so I'll spend some time looking at the selections in the local discounters. Guess this means I'll have to buy a label maker as well. I was hoping to do this on the cheap, but I can see already that I'll have to shell out some hard earned silver.

The reason mine are "nice & neat" as I referred to them earlier, is because I got really ticked off when I knew I had a part but I could not find it...I ended up buying a new part then finding the one I had in a box...
This made me start thinking that it was never going to happen again....
I went to Home Depot bought some sturdy shelving units (4) and started putting the things together...I have to credit my wife..she came up with the idea for the plastic bins, and it was a good one.
I use 3 of the units for parts as stated earlier, and one for cleaning products and vending supplies. I borrowed the label maker from my wife after I realized I had all these bins and didn't know what was inside.
The shelving units are made of steel, 7ft high and 18inches deep and 4ft wide, and do not need to be secured to the walls...(5 shelves on each). They give me more than enough room with some to spare.
