OK, up front, I'm biased. But, I'm kind of like the Remington Shaver guy (I like the product so much that I bought the company). I have 3 of the Hamilton heaters in my other mats. I recently installed (one month ago) one of the EVO99 units in my 3rd mat. And, I am now on board as a Hamilton distributor.

If you read my earlier Hamilton posts, you know I like these guys. I have spoken with Jeff Deal on numerous occasions and find him to be open, honest, helpful, and fair. I purchased all of the other Hamilton's used, yet they provided full and free support for the installation, and sent manuals without charge. That impressed me.

I don't have lots of feedback yet on the new heater. The install was easy. Hamilton has a special right now where they will preplumb the unit for free. This saves a lot of time and also reduces install errors significantly. What this means is that everything is done except connecting the hot, cold, gas, and electric. The flow switch, valves, and pump unit are already configured.

If your current tank is functional and in good condition, you do not have to replace it.

So far, the unit is working perfectly. It is clean and quiet, and takes up far less space than the old heater. There is no exposed flame, so the chances of something falling into the flame area and causing a fire is minimized.

The only glitch was that I had to reset the thermostat spread. The thermostat is easily set, and there are switches for setting the spread between the set point and the start temp. Too close, and the unit will cycle a lot and be less efficient. The factory setting was supposed to be 12 degrees, and I didn't verify it. I should have. It was actually set at 30 degrees, so my temp was dropping to 90 before it cut back on. I set the switches back to 12, the temp to 125, and it has been working perfectly so far.

The unit is more expensive than some of the other units available. The real question is, how much of my gas bill really goes to hot water? I know the industry standard says half, but I think that is too high. I think its more like 25% at most. Without a separate meter on the heaters, I'll never know. But even at 25%, I should save at least $40 a month on gas at this mat, with a 15% greater efficiency over the standard 82% units. Thats $480 a year. The difference in cost will be paid for in just a few years. Of course, my old unit was more like 60% efficient, so I expect a higher overall return.

The install took about 8 hours total, about $1,000 with materials. I used my regular plumbers and helped out, which probably meant that I cost myself another $100. :)

And yes, I have become a dealer for Hamilton. I'll be glad to help out anyone on this board, but won't step on local toes.

I have had the used Hamilton mini-tube units in my 2nd mat for over 2 years. They were 5 years old when I got them. I just installed some 10 year old mini-tubes in my first mat. All are working perfectly and have never needed any repair whatsoever. They are, however, very easy to repair if needed. The EVO 99 is also very easy to repair, from what I can see. All parts are very readily accessible.

Mr. Deal will personally get the information you request and set you up with a great distributor as well. Do not hesitate to contact him, and yes, you can tell him I advised you to do so.
