Smart Cards are NOT as secure medium anymore and can easily be copied. The following is from a Merrill Lynch research report on DishNetwork:
"Smart cards, which provide security to allow only paying customers to receive programming, gradually became obsolete due to priacy"

Thats good ol 'on the ball' Merrill Lynch reporting on groundbreaking news on something that people have already been doing for MANY years. As long as I can remember these cards have been pirated. If they are becoming obsolete, what is taking their place? Luckily these do not hold any dollar value on them. Direct TV is easier to pirate than Dish Network. Thats why you see old used direct tv receivers selling for higher dollars, because people just want the cards.
