View Full Version : Broken door glass

Yesterday I noticed both my w184 wasco 50 lb machines leaking water at the door. Did not notice either leaking before this.

After looking behind the door gasket, I found a corner broken off the glass flange. The only explanation I can come up with is that someone came in and slammed the doors. I cannot think of anything else that could of caused this. Especially both breaking at the same time.

Has anyone had this problem?

I found one glass at BDS for $97.50 and had to get the second from Wascomat parts for $114.00. With second day shipping to get both by the weekend and both machines out of order for two days I hope this doesn't happen again. Maybe a good reason to install a camera system.

If they are just a little bit broken, just turn the broken piece to the top, then there will be no leak!
Unless they are cracked, no need to buy new ones

I wonder if a certain commercial had anything to do with these simultaneous breaks; monkey see, monkey do.

As Troy says, turn the chipped spot to the top but also silicone the entire perimeter of the glass into the gasket.

My first thought was to turn the broken area to the top however I was concerned a crack could start from the broken area and the glass shatter during a spin cycle. Probably concerned about something that would never happen. If I had ground the area smooth with a diamond tip rotary tool it could reduce and chances of a crack starting.

Both new glasses should arrive this morning. Just hope it does not happen again.

Now you need to research about how to put the glass on. Check on back threads.
It will be some pain to put them on!

It is no big deal, just put the bottom of the glass in the bottom of the gasket and walk around the glass pulling on the gasket until you get to the top. An extra hand would be helpful. One to hold the glass and another to pull on the gasket.

And something soft underneath just in case.

I got both glasses in with with the biggest hassel being cleaning up excess silicone that smeared over both sides of the glasses. The old glasses were the original that came in the machines in 1985. They had also become cloudy with scratches over the years. The new glasses are clear and help the looks of the machines. The fronts and tops of these machines are stainless and in clean condition. The brown panels at the front top of the machines look aged with some surface rust and missing paint. The new glasses make me want to paint and put new decails on these machines.
