View Full Version : unbalanced light
A SQ toploader ran a whole cycle and stopped, all lights went off. But whenever the lid is opened the unbalanced light comes on. To close the lid the light goes off and machine stays off since cycle is complete. Any ideas why this is happening?

Bad timer, there is one last increment that the machine is off but the timer hasn't clicked over to the start position, during this increment the light will do just what it's doing. One other minor possibility is the lid switch is shorting out to ground (as in water/moisture in the switch).

The timer is not nesessarily bad. I have had this situation occur a number of times. Even replaced some timers unnecessarily. The problem is moisture (humidity) inside the timer. Did you have a recent overflow? Or were wet clothes transferred from one washer to another? During transfer water can drip into the timer housing. You can dry off the area around the timer to speed resolution, or just wait and the moisture will evaporate.
I once had a broken hose and major flood. The whole row of toploaders in the area of the flood had the "light on" problem. Over the course of about a week they went off one by one.

I have had this a few times. nothing to worry, at least for me. Somehow fixes itself.
