I have been looking at bill counters since I bought my Mat. They were just too expensive... well that has changed thanks to Sam's Club. They now sell a Bill Counter for $158 plus tax It works so far even better than the banks.

Royal Sovereign 1000 - RBC-1000-SC

Thought you would like to know!

Some time ago someone here suggested looking on EBAY for coin counters, bill counters. I have boughtone each and even a nice coin sorter from Ebay over time. The costs were around $200 a machine. If no Sams keep an eye on EBAY, America's online yard sale. Search coin counter or bill counter.

I bought one of these from Sams a few months ago just to help me until I can find a good used Glory that has two bins and can sort the money.

So far it works good, but it doesn't save me any time in sorting all the bills.

I have several Sam's Club around my home. The first time I saw the anything about the bill counter, it was the price tag with no stock. I also went to the website to find nothing.

However when I went to the Royal Sovereign site I found the counter but no price.

Yesterday I went to another Sam's and they had 25 or 30 of them in stock.

If you have a Sam's close by see if they have it, if not ask the manager. Good luck.

That is a good price for a bill counter. I am looking for one for a long time. I will check my local Sam's Club and see if they carry this product. Thanks.

Duane,

If you find two sorters let me know. I'll take one off of your hands. I am sure that we have the same issue! The new sorters are incredibly expensive, so used sounds like a good idea.

I know folks that have bought low priced counters similar to the Sam's one on eBay (new!) and they had problems with them and they also didn't last long.

Oh how I wish I had so much money that I needed a mechanical bill sorter and counter, lol.
I just give the money to my wife in a bag.

I am with you KJD. I count sort and bundle my bills once a week and it takes about 15 - 20 minutes. I roll up quarters about once every two weeks and between me, my wife and my son we roll up about $600-$700 in about 15 minutes while watching TV. No big sweat.

Mark, Didn't you purchace a bill counter at the show? Was it not worth the bucks or did you decide against it? I remember most currency counters we saw were over 500 bucks.

158 bucks for one sounds like a great deal. I wonder if it will last?

KJD,

With a card system, the good news is that you have no quarters to deal with. The bad news (?) is that you have bills to deal with and they are predominantly singles and they need to be sorted.

You obviously don't need to sort your quarters, you just have to collect and possibly count some! The bills in some coin change machines are automatically sorted- correct?

Not a big deal, but we are always looking to make our lives easier.

How many of you have the small change option in your changer or soda machines that take dimes and nickels? We accumulated a bunch of dimes and nickels in between all the stores each week. An electric coin sorter/counter in the main store was a great help.

Rolling quarters!!!!!

I guess another advantage of a fluff & fold service is a digital scale. Simply weight 50 lbs ($1,000) of quarters put them in a bag and bring them to the bank in bulk, in my case four doors away.

Benefit of Sam's Club counter is for a whopping $4.93 you get a one year warrantee, or if you're a big spender $13.94 for a three year plan.

That was a question I had about CCI, if the bills are all stacked in one or if it had two stackers. My Rowe has 2 stackers, I have the 1$ put in the top, all the rest in the bottom. It makes sorting a little easier.

As for the Ebay, I did not buy the new cheap stuff, I bt better used stuff. After more than 2 years it all is working well. Brandit coin sorter, WT400 bill counter, not sure of brand, a TOP IMEAG coin counter that shoots $10 into a tube for rolling real quick, made in Italy, no model # I can see.

With 3 payphones, 2 soap vender that take all coins (Gold Metal) 2 soda machines and 1 soda/snack combo that coin sorter really is the best of the bunch.

Now you guys have me thinking about a bill sorter..

I could change the settings on the MARS acceptor to only take bills in one direction and that would save me a lot of time, but for customers convenience the acceptors are set to take any bill ($1 - $100) in any direction.

The Glory currency sorter has dual bins so you can just put in the whole stack and then select which bill you want. It will reject all other bills to the rejection bin. Just run the stack through for each type of bill and eventually all bills are separated. My bank uses a Glory and can sort my bills in about 3 minutes, with another 3 minutes to count and wrap. When I do the sorting and counting by hand it takes about 1 hour. The counter from Sam's does save me about 20 minutes.

New prices are from $2500 to $3500 depending on model of Glory.

I hate doing the money so much I even upgraded my bill stackers in my X-Changers from 600 bill stackers to 1000 bill stackers so I can go a whole week before needing to do a collect.

No need for a coin sorter, everything in the store is on the card system.

Kitty, you asked about nickles & dimes.

My customers love my Standard change machine because they can insert nickles & dimes and get a quarter in return. It is amazing on how many nickles & dimes are unloaded. This feature makes it much more easy for my customers to spend money in my mat.
I really don't think going to the bank next door with a bag of nickles/dimes/quarters is a chore. I do not roll anything. Just dump the bag at the bank and let them count.

This changer also seperates the 1 dollar bills from the 5,10 and 20's.

Kitty

We may have had the same machine? I would also have this option in a change machine as you have added, many customers use this option.

One mat would change approx 300 bucks in dimes and nickels to quarters a week.....The pain is seperating the dimes and nickels. Banks here would not accept them together bagged and tagged. We would however, seperate the dimes and nickels and bag to send back the the fed ourselves .

I can't belive you would not set the validator to take bills only one way. I have all mine set for one way, and have a sticker of a bill with the face up so they know which way to put the bill in. Nobody has ever complained. It takes 1/2 the customers a few seconds to turn it around and put it in the right way ( I assume the other 1/2 got it right to begin with) so it is better you use thier time than yours!

My bank does not require the bills to be all turned the same way. As long as they are face up, it's OK. I must admit that when I first started doing this, I compulsively turned the bills the same way, but not any more. Two of my changers (Standard) only accept bills one way. The other (American with CoinCo acceptor) will take them both ways. I have noticed that customers seem to have a problem looking at the picture of the bill, and then inserting the bill the same way... some sort of "bill dyslexia" I guess.

Duane

Pete,

Probably over 97% of bills are all the same way, but if a bill is being rejected, it will usually be accepted when flipped over.

Since I am not there, I want to be sure to take their money any way I can.

Duane.

Kitty,

Son "borrowed" my digital camera but here is the website address for the manufacture.

Tell them you saw their link on Coinwash.com

The machine even comes with a second set of rollers...

What a deal. We paid 800 for something that was comparable to what I had been using at the bank 9 years ago, still working today as far as I know. It was manufactured by ABC coin. Looks very similiar, with the exception of the hopper, only 125 bills. How annoying is it to only set that few bills at a time?

Loser...I had one of these about 18 months ago....started acting up after the first use....returned it for another....which never counted correctly...returned it for a third...which stopped working after about the 4 use....returned it...got money back after yelling at dealer..

I guess you get what you pay for .....

Good luck to everyone else...

I found one of these at Sam's. It works, but does jam with older , frayed bills. The jams are easy to clear, and really only happened with crappy bills. The extended warranty is $13 and change for one year (cause its over $150).

Now that I'm saving time, I'll head over to the sign shop and start promoting my business!!!

I had a Cummins jetscan bill counter/sorter but wore it out last year. The counter option is by far the most useful. I can sort as fast as it can but it can count much faster than I.

I would like to know if everyone is seeing fewer one dollar bills; I am. I assume it is a product of price inflation (higher vend prices).

Andy,

I am looking into a counter/sorter myself and am hesitating because they are quite expensive. I already have a counter, but thought the sorting feature would save me a lot of time. Is it really that slow for sorting??

I assumed that the Jetscans sorted at the same rate as they count.

I bought a Cummins-Allison a few months back. Mine has two large pockets (app. 200 bills each) and a large hopper on top (6-800 bills). It will count, batch, sort, face, or orient about as fast as you load the hopper. It will also count mixed up money without sorting it. I use this setting quite often when I am just auditing the changer, but not going to deposit right away. I might cause a few coronaries when I tell you it was probably the best 4K I ever spent.

Mark,
It does sort fast but the model I had requied you to pull out the odd balls-for example if you were sorting for one's the machine would stop every time it would detect a 5, 10 or 20 bill and you would have to pull it out of the stack then it would start again. It was great for checking your already sorted bills for say an odd 20 in a pack of 50 ones. I am sure there are more sophisticated machines that have seperate bill stacking abilities but the machine I had was better suited for checking presorted bills.

Andy,

Are you referring to a single pocket model? I have seen ones with 2 and 3 pockets that continue to sort after they dump a different bill from the one that is currently being counted.

I have about 15 currency counters, most of which I need to get rid of.

I use 4 of the cummins-allision counters. One is the dual pocket machine. This thing will spoil you silly. It sorts six ways from Sunday. It not only counts but is also a denomination detector/sorter. From a completely mixed set of bills, you can first sort to get all same side up, a second sort spins them so that all are also right side up, not upside down (face is now all the same, and pictures are all the same). Now you do a stranger sort. Whatever is first in line is sorted to the top, the remainder to the bottom. You can set any strap count you want, I usually strap the ones only in $100 straps (rubber bands). Starting with ones, then 5s, 20s, and 10s. All of this on a stack of 1000 bills takes about 2 minutes, fully stacked, oriented, sorted, and counted.

I keep a singe pocket at my other laundromats, plus one at home. I don't use them to sort, because these simply stop whenever they hit a "stranger" which you then remove and hit the continue button. Its just as easy to sort these by hand. However, they are great for finding strangers in a stack (a five in what should be all 1s), plus they give you the exact dollar amount as well.

I rarely have any discrepancies in my count at the bank, and it is usually their fault in counting if a discrepancy occurs. When I hand counted, I got a different count each time I did it, requiring multiple recounts just to make sure I got it right.

These machines also have double detection, so that if 2 bills are stuck together, it will catch them.

I don't use counterfeit detection. I don't want to know if I already have a counterfeit bill. Plus, these detections tend to false positive a lot on good bills.

I have about 6 Glory GF-8 currency counters to sell, plus 4 earlier model cummins machines. The GF-8 machines are great, and I used to love them before I discovered Cummins. They are built like tanks, weighing about 35 pounds each. They are simply counters, not denomination detectors/sorters, but do have doubles detection and counterfeit detection. These sold new for about $3K, back when there weren't any cheap asian counters around. I've sold about 4 on Ebay at $175. I've been planning to put these on, but haven't gotten around to it. However, I'd take $125 for one, plus shipping, if interested.

I also have 3 cummins machines. These are in great shape, but will not recognize the new $20 bills, and are not upgradeable to read the new $20 bills. It reads the old new 20 (2nd generation 20, like the current 5s and 10s), plus the current 5s and 10s. These are still selling on Ebay, but most purchasers don't realize that they aren't upgradeable. Nonetheless, they are selling for $600 or more on Ebay. I'd sell these for $400 each. They do recognize current 50s and 100s as well, but won't recognize the new ones when they come out over the next 2 years. The 5s and 10s are not scheduled for upgrade anytime soon.

If purchasing a Cummins machine, be aware that they use have been using the same model numbers for 15 years, and these all look the same. They do change the series number, and have had series changes in 90, 97, and 99. Only the 97 and 99 are upgradable to the new 20s. However, the 90 series runs everything except the new 20s.

When these encounter a new 20, or another bill which it doesn't recognize (generally highly worn bills are not recognized), you simply push a button that tells it which demonination is correct. It then moves along with the count, accepting what you told it. So, not recognizing the new 20s simply requires a little more interaction, thats all.

I have a couple of other asian machines. An AMRO 60 which I purchased off Ebay and works great. $200. Some other odds and ends. If you haven't guessed by now, I kinda like playing with this stuff.
