View Full Version : Swapping out Maytag tops
I need to start replacing my 15 year old Maytag tops with new energy efficient washers.
I have 4 rows with 5 in each row ( 20 total )
My thoughts are to replace 1 row at a time so that the customers can get use to the new machines and I can also monitor customer usage on the new machines.
My question is what type of machine to replace it with? Neptune, Aurora or something else???
The other machines I have in my store are:
Unimacs
4 - 18#
4 - 35#
2 - 50#
I'm in the same boat, and I'll wait for the replies.
But whatever you do, use the opportunity to raise prices !
Have you thought about doing more large machines ? (30 lbs.)

Me too, I have 16 tops to take out. I have 17 neptunes at my other store and am very happy with them. The only problem is the tops are so close that I have to make big changes to put in fronts
Gary
In put on the aurora would be good. Prices too if anyone has them.
Mike, I have not thought about more 30-35# machines but I could use a couple 75-80#ers.
I have some large families that will come in and fill 4-35's and
2-50's and especially in the summer when doing commercial clothing 24-7 but then I guess I would need a couple large capacity dryers.
My goal right now is to get rid of the inefficient tops.
Some might say to get rid of the tops completely but I also have alot of single people with one or two small loads at a time to cater to.

Part of the make up will be the room you have. I had 2 banks of tops, 10 ea bank, 20 total.
In time, i have out in 6 IPSO HW-55 12# fronts, 3 ea bank, 2 new maytag tops at the end. On the other bank, 1 55# dexter, 2 18# dexter, 1 top. Behind that bank is 1 maytag top, 4 neptunes.
You have no 40's, maybe those and the 75's can be worked in. Neptunes have plenty of problem, but work overall. If you want a pefect replacement for the tops look at the softmount IPSO. And buy some new tops, the newer ones use less water also.
The Auroua has issues I am not ready to deal with, namely the soap tray. You water saving is shot becuase it will pump water in to compensate for oversuding, so it becomes a 20# toploader sideways. The worst thing about the neptune is people keep putting power in the liquid bleach tray, so it has to be taken apart and cleaned all the time. Oversuds and OOB are not to bad probelm. I don't think I will put any more of them in. I do not have these issues with my IPSO's. I still clean my own stores so it is important, as my time is. IPSO flushes the tray every cycle, never crap left in it, and they ony use 13 gals water, adn have a dump valve so oversuds is not an issue. Plus, it is a smaller front load so you can price it low and still make money, though it looks like an 18#er.
