View Full Version : Dexter T400 Washer - drain failure

I only have 2 T400s, but both have been sporadically failing to drain water, usually after rinse cycle, not sure whether 1st or 2nd rinse. The machine will finish it's full 26 minute run and display 11 quarters again, ready for the next customer, but it is full of rinse water. (This only happens maybe once per week, and they do a decent amount of washloads per week.)

I assume you already checked all the plumbing from the outlet of the drain valve to the wherever it goes into the back of the washer. If you are confident that everything is clear then you probably have a sticky drain valve.
Time to change the valve. Yes, change the whole valve, not parts of it.
What I would do the next time that happens is one of 2 things.
When the water is not draining open the front panel and give the drain valve body a good b#$@h smack, if the water suddenly goes out then you definitely have a sticky valve, Replace valve
When the washer is full of water go to the back and slowly pull of the drain hose to the back of the washer (hope you have a floor drain back there, LOL), if water come gushing out then valve is OK and you drain is clogged, Little or no water and you drain valve is sticking closed.
My guess is you have a sticking valve because it is fine most of the time, which is not a symptom of a clogged drain.

Since I last posted about 3 weeks ago, I haven't had any problems at all. I did buy a new drain valve, but am not going to change out, now that they are no longer acting up. One question, your theory of sticking valve sounds logical. Could it have flushed itself of soap build-up? Also now that our weather here is nice and the humidity is gone, could this have had something to do with it also? The timing sure seems coincidental! (Still waiting on back ordered parts on the other problems i posted.) Thanks.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. Its good that you have a spare just in case.
Usually the ball inside the valve gets jammed on the seal because it has deformed. Sometimes this caused by bra wires or other debris. Also caused by lint building up in the pivot points.
But again if it working then don't worry about it!!!
