View Full Version : Repost of ADC stack dryer - too much heat

I have a couple stack dryers that are getting too hot.

With a internal thermometer (very accurate) placed in the drum it will register over 300 degrees before the burner shuts off. A couple of loads of clothes have came out smoking.

Here is what I have done so far and it has not cooled it down:

Replaced temperature probe and 225 degree limit switch just below the lint screen.
Vacuumed out every trace of lint I could find in the machine.
Cleaned the 3" overflow pipe in the back of the machine.
Put on new belts just for ha ha's.
8" vent to the outside cleaned.

The computer boards are set at 180 degrees and all the other dryers register 210 - 212 degrees when the burner shuts off but I cannot figure what is wrong with these two besides maybe a bad computer board.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks, Kevin

ps. Since this post I have made sure no air is drawing through the lint trap over the temperature sender to cool it.
I have also changed all the coils on the gas valve.
The only way I can cool the dryer down is to set the computer board at 140 degrees instead of 190 and then the burner will kick off at 210 degrees and kick back on at 170 degrees like all the rest.

thanks again for any help, Kevin

ADG230's? adg235's

Have you tried swapping the computers from the good dryer to the bad to see what happens?

When the dryer is cold in the morning before anyone uses it what is the temperature as read on the computer display when you flick the program switch. It should be somewhere between 80 an 90 deg or so. If it is below that then the computer's temp circuit is bad and the computer either needs to be repaired or adjusted. The small blue pot on the bottom and top of the board will adjust the idle temp. If its correct don't play with it.

I have actually adjusted the pots to get dryers to think the dryer is colder than it really was in order for the dryer to be hotter than the hottest setting but it isn't a good practice to mess with it if you don't know what you are doing.

I have 230's and sometimes the computers go out of temp calibration. Swap them and see if they are bad. You can get these boards rebuilt cheap.

Yes, they are 230's. My next idea was to swap computer boards from a good one to this one as I don't think I have a spare or new board on hand. I will check the temperature of the board tomorrow morning when I open ( If I remenber correctly anytime I have flipped the program switch it has been in the 80 degree range but the dryer may have been a little warm at that point, I will recheck in the morning when it is cold.)

Thank you, Kevin
