Now that I have Ispell for free, I think I will post another type of thread. We all want free stuff from the net. We pay a monthly fee to access and feel everything should be free from there. I am the same. Think about it. What is this site worth to you? Who do you think is paying the bills? I have asked Jonathan to set up some sort of account, like PayPal, where members can discreetly give a buck or two now and then. There have been people who have paid off massive credit card debt by donations from Pay pal users. Hey buddy, can you spare me a Pay Pal? This poll shows what you might do to support this board.

If Jonathan does not remember this idea he will now..

I agree Pete. I saw that button on ieSpell website and thought the exact same thing. You even beat me to the punch of contacting Jonathan.

There needs to be a system in place. I have been thinking of donating, but there's not even a address on the board to send donations to. Yes, I know it only takes a e-mail, but I find that when I donate, it spontanious, and a lag waiting for a reply is time for indecision.

There are a couple of ideas that come to mind.

Simply have a page stating you accept donations, and here is the address. Maybe in addition, you could have the Paypal donate button we seen on ieSpell.

You could have different levels of rank for donations. I see several organizations have a silver, gold, platinum, etc depending of the amount of donation. But I don't like this because it becomes a status thing.

Could someone give us a suggested donation?

How about (monthly expenses + a %) / # of active members? This would give us some idea of a reasonable monthly #.

Any thoughts?

I don't even own a mat (yet), but would certainly contribute to this site. You folks *are* this site, and your input is more valuable than any I've found so far!

By all means, set up a Pay Pal deal... I know that's how I would most likely pay -- it's a click of the mouse, and we're all already on the 'puter.

Jonathan <sp?>, you can set up a page for folks with preset amounts to choose from, and a fill in amount too. I'd use that in a heartbeat! Put the link to it at the top of all three categories.

For something like the spellcheck upgrade, you might set up a separate "help me fund this" drive. Do up a graphic showing the goal, and a graphic with the running total to date. (Does that make sense?)

I used to be the web engineer in a marketing group -- contact me if you'd like some input or help with it... I'd love to help out!

Cheers,
pk

Can I pay in buttons ?

I would really prefer if the advertisers paid,

I would also prefer that if we had to pay a small amount, that would be everyone !

I hate having people pay less than I do for ANYTHING.

(I'm glad Jonathan DOESN'T feel the same way I do, or there would be no board !)

A secure Paypal and MC/visa button, costs money. Everything on the board costs money. We want the advertisers, and we are seeking them out. As for membership contributions, it would be great if members would send in a couple of bucks. A button that would enable advertisers, or members to post funds by a secured mc/visa within the site would be awesome, but again costs money. I just priced it out here, and it was over 200, then a monthly fee. It'll happen, as the upgrades are continuing, just a little slower than we like. Contributions are appreciated, but we do not want to set any limits, do as you feel.

Personally if I were running the board, I would not allow commercial entries on the classified site. I see a few who think nothing of bombarding the site with free ads.

Not sure how hard it would be to make a commercial page, perhaps with a company desription and link th their page... then simply charge a fee, (quarterly or whatever)

Bruce,

This is an issue we are trying to avoid, and are taking steps to eliminate any commercial advertising on the bb and referring these companies to our ad rates or the current free classified section.

Kitty, the Auto car wash forum charges $5 or $10 something for a classified ad for 3 months. If they can't afford to pay that, well, they are not going to buy banner ads. All classified should be some charge.

We are working on that too.

Thanks

I will send in my contribution this week. I just got back from my Florida Vacation. I think we need more sponsors but getting more
users on this board is equally important and we should not underestimate the power of number of members that actively participate on the board.

Just like TV and Radio and many Websites, Advertisement rates and demand depends on number of Viewers/Listeners or number of hits. We should encourage lot of other people to join this board and increase the membership.

There are also many other ways to raise money. For eg. publish a discount coupon book and sell it to members or organize a dinner event for members in Tri-State area where members can meet each other, exchange ideas and have dinner. We can also sell raffle tickets at this event and raffle off some prizes.

Publish How-to guide and sell it. (How to Finance, How to evaluate MAT business, How to manage Laundromat.

Buy certain parts in wholesale (micro-Switches, Fuses, Connectors, hoses, tools etc.) from OEMs and resell it to members.
