Hey ya'll,
Here's a potential gotcha I just found in my area. The utility company here charges 2 different per cf prices:
November to April: .0120
May to October: .0215
I uncovered this when the owner of the mat I'm looking at sent his water bills for May through July. Puts a whole different skew on things...
Just a heads up for the other newbies out there!
Cheers,
pk

oops... I'm in Colorado. Must be the drought...
So basically,
You just tell your customers wash in the winter, and dry in the summer !
(I can't even shift mine from sunday to tuesday !)
It is not uncommon for your utility Co. to factor in seasonal increases based on peak usage periods. For instances a seasonal gas hike factor in the winter and a spike up in electric rates in the summer for Air Cond. PSE&G does it every year in New Jersey

PSE&G sucks big time, I would like to know how they justify what they call a demand charge only in the winter. Hell it makes sense to charge the homeowner that fee but not us laundromat owners as we are their base load with fairly constant usage year-round. Only those that cause the peaks should pay for them.

Mark, last statistic I saw said roughly 50% of them don't vote. But this is not a political issue, this is a company that is taking advantage of a business that they should be courting. When you are in the utility business (or most any business) your baseline customer that buys the same amount of stuff month-in and month-out is your best customer and normally gets the best rates.

Can I have some cheeze with the whine?
I get charged a 25% surcharge anytime my monthy usage goes above my 12 month average use. So my best months are Jan to April, being here in the sunshine state, and I always go over my average becuase it is busier in winter than summer. So all that extra biz costs me another 25% in water' costs.. I pay the up charge... And of course gas is always higher in the winter..
shoulder anyone? boohoo
Since the beginning of the time the small business guy falls through the crack. Look at the cost of Medical Insurance cost for us. Last year i spent $14,000.00 for medical, dental and Rx insurance. Where is the help from Uncle Sam. Please don't tell me about tax write-offs either. The big Corp's get all the loop holes and the benefits. We are the bag bone of the country and we get the shaft.

And on top of that small businesses are the real engines of economic growth. Small business as a whole hire more, spend more, and make more, and pay a lot more tax than corporations.
