Hey ya'll,

Looking at a mat between a liquor store and a bar with a healthy supply of bikers -- I should know, my finance' and I have gone there for pre-ride events.

This mat is currently only open til 5:00, and I want to factor in a later open time. Fiance' thinks no big deal up to 9:00 pm, and votes we spend some quality time together at the bar "so we can gauge customer rowdiness objectively." lol

I'm thinking female customers wouldn't make use of the facility after dark. Also thinking I would be less than keen on being there myself for cash pickup after dark.

Anyone have experience with something like this?

Cheers,
pk

Probably one of the worst combonations in the world. Putting a Laundry next to a bar. Too many drunks, too many fights, too many problems. Again women want to feel safe and since 60-70% of your customers are probably going to be female, you need to respect their rights and safety. Not to mention that children will also visit you store. I vote a big NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck,

BWJR

I have a mat next to a sort of red neck bar, sorry to catagorize politiacaly correct and all.. anyway I get lots of business from it and no, the drunks do not hang around. The guys, and girls put thier wash in, go next door, come back toss in the dryer, go next door, came back and fold. I would take being next to a bar ANYDAY over being next to a C-store, that is the worst.
I am open til 11;00 at that store.

Bikers can't carry much laundry though most own pick ups..

Good points! Luckily no c-store around... :) But there is a Bingo Parlor that's open til 9:00, so maybe I'm just being an alarmist...

Thanks ya'll!

You may be surprised how safe the store may be.Years ago I gave a musician friend a ride home to Brooklyn.Lining the streets were hundreds of bikes. This was a Hells Angels neighborhood.I had to ask and was told they had no crime and people didn't have to lock their doors,no one would dare mess around in that place.Don't judge too quickly...

same experience as pete. we have a store near a bar, pizza, tattoo place. We actually make more money from the "drunks" as they don't know the difference between $5 tip and $20 tip for helping them put their wash in the dryer. Never a problem though. It guess it depends on how you treat people too.

OK, I gotta ask, whats a c-store ?

My mat is located in a strip mall with a liquor store and two STRIP clubs.

Really no problem with the clubs though it does get a little wild after 10pm so that is when we close.

Best thing to do is spend alot of time around the place in the evening hours to see how it really is.

c-store is a convenience store.

most time c-store is in reference to something like a small gas station thats sells milk, chips, candy and other goods.
But it is just a 'quick stop' store.

An uncle of mine once had a mat with a very busy shot and beer bar right next door. No women would come near the mat afterdark. There were always empty beer bottles everywhere. The worst part was frontloaders make great urinals.

Glenn,

consider the picture painted !

(I'm not even gonna THINK what they could get up to with a top loader !)

My store had a bar one block away and a liquor store across the street. Too many problems and too many complaints related to drinking and beer can trash. I still think its a terrible mix.

Good Luck,

I would not want to be next to a liquor store, that is to much like a c-store where you can buy beer to go. They sit at your mat and drink and smoke and make a mess. The mat next to the bar they stay in the bar, you are not allowed to leave with alcohol.

I am still confused as to why being located next to a c-store is bad? A C-store's customers don't take up parking spaces for a long period of time and it is a benefit to my customers who want food (I just have a soda machine). The C-store is also happy to give out and make change if I have a problem. The C-store is also open the same hours as my l'mat and opens and locks my doors with their own.

Overall, I think a c-store is better than a beauty shop, restaurant, bar or most other stores found in a strip center.

Let me know if I am overlooking something.
