I have a SQ model 30xg computerized dryer that is about 15yrs old. The problem is when money is inserted it runs for about 2 minutes and shuts off as if the cycle is over. Putting money in again it starts fine , and shuts off again prematurely. Any idea's on what it could be?

Thanks--Bob C

if you have another dryer - swap out the timer module/door/panel ...whatever you can do to isolate the problem to the timer. My dad had a SQ dryer 20 years in which, you can remove the whole panel that inluded the whole coin module as well as the timer ring. If you have a ring on it, most likely the ring has come lose from the two metal pins it sits on. Sorry I'm not too clear but if you can provide a picture or possibly further decription of what the whole coin mechanism looks like - it would be helpful.

Ajay, computerized = NO TIMER.

Ok first, what does the time display show before the quarter is inserted? If it reads P03 or P04 then someone has flipped the #1 dip switch on the right bank of switches on the micro up. All switches on both banks of dip switches should be down except #4 on the right bank (enables the beep when dryer is timed out).
If it is blank then what does it read when a quarter is inserted?
It should read 8 or 10 minutes depending on your cycle time. If it reads 2 minutes then someone has changed the setting and the dryer is doing what it is supposed to.

How much time do you get for the first quarter inserted. When it shuts off, what time is showing on display both before and after it shut down. In other words is the time reseting to 0 or is there still time left on the display. Is this dryer glow bar or spark ignition? If spark, make sure the burner is grounded.
I normally would say the motor might be overheating but you state that if you put another quarter in it starts right up.

Possible noise from ignition box if equiped or computer may be bad or not set correctly. Try switching the computer to another dryer.

Two questions.
Does the display flash "Door Open" for a split second just before the dryer stops?
Is this the original control board or has it been replaced?

I had a problem like that over the weekend. I was left 3 Out of Order notes, all said the dryer would stop and you had to press the start button to restart it. It did not lose any time, but would stop about every 2 to 5 mins. Also thier was no display as to the remaining time, it was blank. When you pressed start ther time would show. I replaced the computor board so far no more OOO slips.

I get 7 minutes on first quarter and 8 per additional quarter. The door open light does not come on. Display starts correctly, but machine stops as if power interuption occured. Probably is the computer board, maybe overheat situation. I'll swap it out and see if the problem follows. Would a faulty ram unit cause this? Are these boards repairable? Anyone know of a goood price on where to purchase one?

Thanks---Bob C

Yes it is possible for the ram box to cause this but it is most likely not the box.

I think it is the computer board. My guess is that the molex connector on the back of the board is loose and needs to be resoldered. If you have a soldering iron you can touch it up youself rather than sending it out for repair. It is a common problem with that board. Usual the board develops cold solder joints at places where there is high heat or current. The board is real easy to disassemble. Remove it from machine and check the back of the small board, the one with the transformer on it. Carefully straighten the tabs that are bent and remove the board from the metal frame.

Bob, the boards are repairable, there are many ads in the coin op mags. I have used Mountain View a few times, 1-800-370-6053
Tell them you saw their Phone Number on Coinwash.com
I do not remember what they charged, I only have a few of those so it is every few years.

oops sorry - read too quickly. I concur, computer board. but just to be sure, swap it with another dryer. Last time I checked the repair cost was $80 but to buy new was $125. It was worth me buying new.

There is a guy in new york state, who does them for $30.

I've used him twice already, about 10 or 12 boards each time

I can't find his name now (problems with my past emails), something like D&E or K&E and the town was about 50 miles north of NYC. Somebody here will know.
