Was just watching ABC news and they showed a story about an 87 year old woman that hit the gas and powered through the front window of the Rainbow Laundromat in Nyack, NY. What is it about laundromats that attract cars to hit them?

Kirby,

Are you sure that it is in Nyack or Orangeburg because I know a Rainbow Laundry in Orangeburg that I fix stuff for. I was just there on saturday. The same owner is opening a new mat in Nyack but I am not sure of the name of the store, could be Rainbow also. WOW!!!!

Yeap it was ORANEGBURG. I know the owner and I was just there Saturday afternoon to remove a dryer motor for rebuild. I guess I will be fixing a few more things, LOL Besides the storefront it looks like the car only hit the counter, vending machine but missed the washers.

Unbelievable thing is that the present owner just bought the store 2 weeks ago. Hope the driver and customer is Ok.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE WHY WE NEED A AGE LIMIT ON DRIVERS!!!!

Shows the accuracy of the news, they clearly said Nyack on TV - oh well.

In a period of little over a year I had both my laundries run into and take out the pain of glass and push the front of my mat wall back. Both were done by a male driver over 75 yrs old. Do you think we need to look at the driving laws in regards to age???
Thank God no one got hurt.

I think a drivers competency test over a certain age would be more appropriate.

Age effects people differently. Some people are fully competent drivers into their 80's.

A small amusing story that seems apropos here.

I friend's father age 96 lives in Ontario, where they apparently test the older drivers every couple of years (this guy drives better than I do !!)

They give them a hearing test, eye test, road test, and interview the person.

The interviewer asked my friends dad "what is the worst experience you've had while driving ?" (I guess they were trying to find aout about any recent "near misses")

He thought for a few seconds, and answered "well, I guess the worst was driving an ammo truck through a minefield back in 1944"

His licence was renewed.

true story !
