At the clean show, I mentioned to Jim Hunter (the Head maintenance guy for Maytag) that I still get the occasional complaint from customers that their clothes didn't spin. He mentioned a fix to me that I had never heard before, applicable to the 20 and 14 series, but not the 21.
It seems that the original spring steel loop on the door is not quite long enough to activate all of the door switches. It will lock, and allow the machine to start, but doesn't let the machine to go into spin. The new version is slightly longer and fully activates all the door switches. The machine completes the cycle and never gives an error indication that it did not go into spin.

Yes, what he is saying is true, but I doubt that is what is causing the problems. More important you should check/replace the spin safety switch, as that is usually the problem. The original switch is/was a poor choice made by Maytag. The contacts within the switch even when the switch in actvated do not make contact with each other and thus cause the no spin condition. I recomend using part # 207166 (Check switch) which has a larger internal contact area. I have been using them for years replacing the original ones and have had great results.
Note:
There are other cases for a no spin condition that quite frankly cannot be fixed except by redesign of the washer. You will always have situations that will cause a no spin condition in this washer. You just have to deal with it.

It is part of the latch assy.
If you are having a problem with no spin I would first start the washer and then go into help mode and check to see if the "door locked" indication comes on after 2 minutes. Do you know how to get into help mode? If you get indication then the spin safety switch is good. If not then you probably have something wrong with the latch assy, (lock solenoid or spin safety switch and should have the unit replaced. The latch assy is replaced as a complete unit as it is not easy to disassemble and it is under warranty so why bother.
Again, you should hear a click and have indication on the screen in help mode 2 minutes after you start the washer and the door should be physically locked.

hello, seems you have the same problem that i have had with my neptunes..........i guess it could be the door lock assembly or the motor control board. but my fix was the upper control board. the one with the display, took it off and found a bad spot on the board. the machine did everything but spin........ soldered the board back up and now it works fine. hope this helps.
