Hi there:
We are getting some bearing noise from the motor on a W124. We may send out the motor to a shop, but i've done other small motor bearing jobs before and thought I might do this one myself. Any tips/tricks/or warnings about this ?. The motor in question is 240 V single phase. Thanks.

Have done a few myself using the parts from BeeSmart - very easy to do. If you don't have a puller they sell the Sear's one with extensions which you need to do the job.
Call Bob Boley from Bee Smart. He has kits that will repair any motor. He is from Williamstown, N.J. 08094, 856-629-4217.
Tell them you saw their name on Coinwash.com

The hardest part of doing a motor bearing job is to get the motor out of the washer! And putting it back! Without smashing your fingers... Ok, I'm a clutts.
Seriously, You can buy just the bearings from Axxon or any other Wasco dealer. A puller is needed to get the old bearings off. Use a 1" copper pipe to drive the bearings down onto the rotor shaft. Make sure you save the special spring washer that's inside the bearing away from the shaft. Clean the rotor with something like mineral spirits and a brush. Be careful to not touch or hit the windings. Make the outside of the case so the ends match up when you reassemble. This isn't really needed but a nice thing to do.

Thanks for all the great replies. I've seen the Bee-smart website before and it looks that might be a good way to go. I've used the copper pipe as a "bearing installation tool" before on fan and pump motors in past jobs.
Thanks again.
