View Full Version : changing glow bar

I ordered a ram 1 spark igniter to replace my glow bar on an ADC dryer back in January. I am just now hooking it up. They sent me no instructions and I have also lost the invoice where I ordered it from. The igniter works just fine however it does not heat up like a glow bar and does not heat the little window that sends a signal to the gas valve to open and send gas. So I guess my question is what do I need to do or who to call? Would like anything you could do to help me in this problem.

Thanks Reg

First try to call the Co. that you ordered the Ram Kit from. When you go to a spark from a glo-bar system the kit comes with one coil that replaces a twin coil, I believe on the left hand side. The glo bar and the reflector are no longer used in that system. What number ram kit are you using I may have a copy of the instructions in case you can't get a copy from anyone.

Good Luck,

My advise is to call in a pro, you are on a path to blow up your store.
The sensor (you call it a window) is not used with the RAM kit. The idea of the kit is to open the gas valve at the same time the spark starts, thus igniting the gas.
Sorry for the harsh words but as a service tech for 28 years, a backroom mechanic is my worst nightmare.
DO NOT PLAY WITH GAS UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Just get the instructions it is very simple a monkey could do it. I changed 30 dryers awhile back with no problems.

the igniter is a Ram 1 I bought it a few months ago and lost the invoice so I don't even remember the co I bought it from. I had heard about the Co from here and went to the web page and ordered it. I was hoping someone on here would have the webpage again. No instructions came with it. I don't have a coil with it maybe they sent one and we did not know what to do with it but can't remember what we did with it if one came with it.

But I am going to get it working so thanks for the help so far :)

Reg,

Be careful, if you hook it up wrong, you could blow up the ram or worse, you could burn up your store. Don,t hook it up without instructions.

Best of luck,

I have changd over 100 SQ/Hubsch dryer to ignitors.I dn't have any ADC but helped my friend changed a few for ADC285,so I know a little about this update. Most Ram's instruction are for the SQ model anyway, not a lot info on ADC.
I spoke to ADC,tech in my area and ignitor co's enginner.
1,ADC didn't suggest this update for safty reason.
2,You won't need the senser for the update.
3,Some dryer's computer doesn't like the ignitor,it may screw up the computer's data/coin credit. If you have a computer model, you may need to change a relay board or put a filter in the harness.
2 ways to add filter, filter ring or add a cap in the harness.
If you have a Greewell timer, don't warry about that.
If you need instruction, email me your address.I shuold have a few somewhere.
