On one of frontloaders I am having a intermittent problem.

Sometimes after inserting the quarters the timer will make 2 or 3 revolutions but will not start the machine.

It only happens every 4 or 5 uses then after the timer stops running you can insert 8 more quarters and the machine will start fine and run through the cycles without a problem.

Also on another machine the pin that stops a coin from being put in if the door is open sometimes does not engage.

Any ideas ?? Thanks, Kevin

Common reasons for this to happen is...

1- Intermitent door lock coil.
2- relay board on top of capacitor is bad. Check the silver thermistor on the top of this board and see if it is loose. It sometimes comes loose from machine vibration.
3- Loose wire somewhere
4- Bad timer contact

Attach a light bulb to the door lock coil wires and start the washer as normal if the bulb lights then it probably is a bad coil.
You could use a meter to measure 110 volts DC but you would have to look quick as the pulse in very short. Try it several time to make sure each time it lights up.

Remove the front panel and door lock cover plate and check to see if the door lock coil is free and doesn't bind in any way against the slide plate arm.
