Does anybody own a pay phone at their laundry? The one at my strip mall just got yanked by ma Bell. Convenience store disconnected their hydro. Bell rep asked if he could locate directly on the building rather than the pedestal in the parking lot.
should I be installing my own and is there enough profit? How do you make money on the long distance etc.?
thanks kp

Pollwood,

Bell Canada are pondscum,

I had to fight with them for 5 years (1978-1983)
to get them to install a payphone in my mat, which, I explained to them was open 15 hours a day, 7 days a week, unlike neighbouring businesses which had pay phones.

They finally installed one, for which I received TINY cheques ($2 or $3 a month)

Then about 1983-4 they installed another payphone outside on the sidewalk (public property)
My usage fell except during rain and cold weather.

No cheques !!!!!!!

Last year, after they "heard" I was looking around for a competitor (I guess they were notified, I suspect some of these "private businesses are owned by Bell)
They had the audacity to send me a contract to sign !!!!

Remember, I haven't received any cheques for many years !!!

I don't THINK so !!!!

I have a payphone, came with the mat. I'm remodeling another and plan to install one there, also. The phone is a pretty good deal. My monthly phone bill for the business is about $45.00. In the eight months of owning the mat, I have always collected more than $75.00

If you do not have a lot, I mean many business calls per hour, of incoming/outgoing calls, simply hook the phone to your existing line.

I have it connected to my fax line, which is also my laundry spy line. Kills three birds with one stone. my fax picks up on the first ring.
It's not exactly on the level you know.

I recently took my payphone off the wall. It was doing about $3 a week in business costing me $53 a month for the line. Anyone intereseted in a purchase?

I owned a pay Phone in a very busy mat. The gross income was about $360.00 / month and my bill ran between $100.00 to $120.00. Some repair problems along the way, but the parts were cheap and you can fix it yourself. I left my phone at @5c for the longest time and when i change programs, i changed it to 35c. I did very good volume and excellent profit. Oh by the way i owned the phone. Don't go with a commission, its not worth it, Phone can be bought for about $400.00.
