What is the over-all feeling on the American Changers?

I have had one for 8 years and I think they are excellent. Has anyone had any problems with any of theirs??

I have a few American changer, they work well.
There service depo always answer my call ,they also exchange or rebuild parts very fast and cheap too.
A few parts they can improve,1,Heavier cab,the cab is very weak2 better AUDIT system but if they want to keep price low they may not able to do that.
I think the best parts of this company : they don't reinvent the wheel.
They always buy reliable parts in market put in there machine. Some companies try to make everything themselve(you guys should knew which company I am talking about.) Some parts take them 2,3 years or longer to work out the bugs.

Don't ask American to improve the Audit system. If they do they may become like another changer co. They keep it simple and they work great. Who needs an audit system?

If customer tell you"I put $20 in,only get $5", AUDIT will be nice.
I know we only use once a while but it is nice to have.

I have a 2005. Hated it. It dumped the hopper a few months ago, and needs about 2 or 3 dollars run everytime I fill it, before it will give you four quarters. I pulled it for a Standard, and its now collecting dust. Love to sell it.

I have a 1002 with a Cashcode validator. Rubber wheels get worn and won't put bill into billbox. Local dealer charge $4 each for four rubber wheels.

Other than that, I haven't had any problems.

I've had it about 1 year.

We have two 2002 changers, one about 4 years old, another about 6 years old. I have to replace one computer board. Both have Coinco validators. Easy to clean. Only re-occuring problem is having to clean the hoppers out once in awhile after the metal plates get oxidized and/or lint and dirt build up in the lower sections of the hopper.

The only audit 'problem' I've been able to confirm is getting 2 quarters for $1. This means one of the hoppers isn't dispensing. It would be nice if the machine had the ability to count quarters as they were dispensed and compare that quantity to the bill that was being changed. BUT, I wouldn't want to spend too much more to get that feature.

The net, net... I'd still buy American.

I have 7 AC 1002 units the oldest about 10 years the newest about 3 months. I had 1 dump bout 10 years ago on a new unit American replaced board. I have not had any other problems other than dirt and normal maintanance. All units have coinco validators. The problems I have heard about on this board all seem to be with the double hopper models. I wish that every thing I have would work as good as my Americans. Tom

I had an occasional problem with my model 1002. It would accept a bill but not pay out or go out of service. The bill was not counted. I finally figured out that the changer behaves this way when the optical sensors in the CoinCo validator are dirty. The proper way to clean them is to remove the phillips screw from the bottom of the validator, then remove the cover to the sensors. I used alcohol and a Q-tip to clean the sensors. Cleaning what appears to be the sensors from the top side only cleans the windows, but not the sensors.
