Check to see if the sail switch is sticky, it might be pulling in some of the time but not other times. Or, it could be a loose wire that is impacted by temperature. I had one to a temperature probe that was only making contact some of the time.

RAM, does your 530 have glow bars or spark ignition? I have the glow bar models of the 530 and the symptoms you describe are exactly those I ran into when the glow bar failed, having developed a crack in the bar.
If you do have the glow bars, two things to look for. There usually is a small white area on the bar where the crack is. If you remove the bar (CAREFULLY) and inspect the white spot, you should be able to see the actual crack. To verify the bar, disconnect both ends of it from the controller and the common point. Place an ohm meter across the glow bar leads. You should have a reading of a few thousand ohms (can't remember just how many ohms) but NOT an open circuit.
The only way to fix the glow bar is to replace it. ADC does have a conversion kit to change from glow bars to spark ignition. I'm in the process of doing all of my dryers.
If you don't have glow bars, can't help you....
thank you for your reply

I'm not a rocket scientist, but if you forced the sail switch and then it works it sounds like a problem with the sail switch.
Try adjusting the damper switch before you replace it.

By open and then closing the sail switch all you did was reset a locked out ignition module, the sail switch may not be bad. I would look at the module, the ignitor or the spark cable.
I had an intermitent problem with one of my ADC Dryers. First I moved the switch to another dryer and the problem stayed with the first one. Then I swapped the DSI module with the machine next to it and the problem moved to that machine so problem solved, new DSI module.

Outlaw is right, by closing the sail switch, all you did was reset the ignition module. I would bet that the problem is in the module. You need to observe the malfunction as follows :
First laod the dryer up with wet clothes, FULL LOAD....never test an empty dryer.
sit back there with a cup of coffee and watch and listen.
Does the module continue to spark after the flame is present ?
If so, is the flame enveloping the sensor probe ? (this is the probe that is connected to "FP" on the module.) If the flame is ok, take a look at the probe, the wire , or MODULE (probably the module not recognizing a flame present.)
We have seen some updraft burners that are very tempermental as to air flow behind the dryer. The flame gets pulled away from the sensor. Does your burner tube have an access plate located at the bottom, held in place by two 5/16 screws ? Try to move it up a quarter or half way, or remove it, increase the "air hole". Tony
