I recently purchased 2 keltner coin drops. I already had a couple of seto's but on recommendation thought I'd try the keltners. The keltner seem to be better made but seem to stick out from the machine in almost an ulgy way. Anyway, the keltner display doesn't stay lit when the door is open---is this normal? Whats your opinion---Keltner vs. Set-o-matic ?

BD has said that the light off when door is open is a good thing, as the customer/you will know when the door is closed and prepared for use. We find the keltners to be very good coin drops, even though their not as "pretty"

Yes this is normal. But I think you can wire it to stay on all the time. I left mine the way it is.

Perform a search and see if anything turns up.

I only have Keltner and they have been performing flawlessly for many years.

The only think I don't like about Keltner is if you change the price, it takes it a while to recognize the new price if there has been power to the display. There must be capacitors that need to drain down. But then again, I don't change the price that often.

I have both, Keltner and Setomatic. By Far Keltner are the most Robust and Flawless but ugly looking. Setomatics are little finiky.

My Keltners are older than Set-O-Matic and never had any problems with Keltner. Set-O-Matics I had minor problems with couple of them.

The Keltner Coin Mech sizes the coin and will reject it back out at you. It will not hold the coin or slug, which clogs up the mech and puts it out of service. I have owned five of them and they all work well with liminted problems.

I put Keltners on my 30 year old Milnors about 4 months ago, they are great. I like that the display goes dark if the door is not closed it tells the customer something is wrong.

I have no experience with the setomatic I just chose Keltner because everyone told me that they were the best. so far not one problem they are great.

As for ugly... well I think its Kind of like bolting a digital display to an old jeep kind of drags the whole thing into the 21st century.

The customers love them because it keeps count of the quarters, so do I, I have yet to have a customer complain that the machine didn't start with the right number of quarters.

Before the keltners with their displays once a day a customer would swear that they had to put in 13 or 14 quarters before the machine started. I would always just give then 1 or 2 quarters to keep them happy but I knew that they just lost count.

Sean,

A couple of questions:

How much did you pay for the kit and where did you get them??

How much cutting did you do on the machine and were the directions easy to follow to install. My one Milnor has the old rachet style and the wheel and the other has the computer board, can they both be converted with the same kit?

Thanks,

BWJR

BWJR,

as I recall about $300.00 each installed
(it was 4 months ago I may be off a little)
But he included 2 hours travel time for me, probably not an issue for you.

a guy in Jersey reputed to be the Milnor guru in our area.
I will e-mail you his name and number, i don't know the etiquette for posting info on the board.

he did the work and it was a nice job

lots of cutting, and those Milnors use thick tough metal.

both mine were the old rachet style.

Not one problem since the install.

Keltner has a new model with a flat face that will fit Gen 5 and 6 wascomat if the machine is equiped with the proper newer style meter case.
