I still have 5 small Maytag stack dryers and half of them are not hot enough to dry clothes. What should I replace to keep the temp hot?

Thanks,

Check the vents to make sure you have no blockage.

Give us some more idea by what you mean they are not hot enough to dry clothing. Is there a flame and some heat? Does the flame cycle on and off or is it on constantly? Does it get hot and then the flame trips out? We need some more info to give you a solution.

Khach,

I owned a Laundry with these Aptartment size Dryers in them. They are suppose to be energy efficient, but they never seem to dry the clothes properly. The only thing you can do is make sure you keep the vents clean, the fan clear of lint and check your vent stacks going to the manifold. I believe the vents are probably only 4" and they always seemed to get clogged, which will slow down your air flow to nothing. Remember these are very small dryers and if your customers take out one wash load and they put the whole load in this type dryer, their clothes have no room for the air to pass through the clothes and get them dry. Get yourself some signs that say two dryers per one load of wash.
Not to discourage you, but in 10 years with these dryers, I was never able to satisfy the customers. My only reason for putting them in was for a lack of sufficient space.

Good Luck,

BWJR

They are small, difficult to keep the vents cleaned and take about $2 to dry a load of laundry and that is even when they wash in a high extract Neptune.

This type of Maytag stack dyers make me a lot of money.

Of course it is because the local University has them in the dorms and a lot of students use my Neptunes and 30lb stacks to dry their clothes in 20 minutes.

Want to make some good money? Sell them cheap, or give them to your competitor.... ;o)

I have 2 different problems.
1. The dryers turn but the flame won't come on ( I guess the flam ignitor is broken)

2. The dryers turn and the flame comes on in a short time then goes off too fast compare to the other dryers. The flame stays on for only about 10 - 20 seconds then goes off for about 60 - 90 seconds. Normally the flame stays on for about 30 - 60 seconds and stays off for about 60 -90 seconds.

The technician normally charged me $50 just to fix only 1 dryer, and I only charge customers 25 cents for 15 minutes. These dryers got some kind of problem so often one after the other. I am thinking about replacing these with some new 30lbs stacks very soon. I can't keep up with them anymore.

Khach,

If the ignightor lights and the burner comes on then goes out, its air flow. You also have two coils of which one may be bad, one clicks to turn on the ignightor the other clicks to release the gas and light the burner. If glow bar is lighting, its not the glo-bar.

Could be whatever they use to sense the flame. You say you get ignition and then the flame goes for a little while then shuts off, this is what happens when the system does not sense the flame- it thinks it has had a flame failure and closes the gas valve.

Problem 1. Does the glo-bar come on? If so does it go out in 30 - 45 seconds? When it goes out, does the flame light? The gas valve does have 2 coils but one does not turn on the ignitor, it is energized at the same time the glo-bar is energized, allowing the gas valve to fill with gas, when the ignitor is hot enough it opens the second coil, purging the high volume of gas in the valve which creates flame, both coils must then stay open to maintain flame.

Problem 2. There is an ignition sensor close to the glo-bar, the glo-bar heats it enough to open the gas valve, flame comes on, then the flame has to keep that sensor hot enough to stay open, a weak sensor will close prematurely causing the flame to go out and the glo-bar to come back on within a second or two. Over and over again. Most likely a weak sensor.

The most common problem I've found on these units is bad valve coils. They will work initially, then as they get hot start to fail.So if they only heat for a little while then go out ,you'll get a partial dry situation.

Khach,

Let us know. Did you correct the problem? What part did you replace or did you just improve your air flow/ The problems never end with these Apt Stacks. Buy 30#'ers if you can.
