View Full Version : interesting solution to a problem
one of my Dad's dryers recently had a problem that had me puzzled for weeks....dryer would run fine but then all the sudden no heat. you can open and close door etc.. no solution. we checked the door switch, exhaust, lint screen, rear air switch, etc.. etc.. as I was so sure that the problem was somewhat related to "air flow".
Just for the hell of it, one day my dad switched the whole gas valve and pipes before and after the valve, and the problem went away. Apparently there was an air bubble or somesort that blocked gas from flowing.

I had a similar problem, but it turned out that the thermostat was the problem. I found it accidentily when my hand bumped it during one of it's 'outages'. I could lightly tap it and it would come on.

If he swapped the gas valve and that fixed it then the problem was a faulty gas valve.
No, after he swapped them, both dryers are functioning fine. Sorry I wasn't clear.

Did you find it was the thermostat or was it loose connection? I also told my dad, if nothing else we'll replace the thermostat- just to see if that would the problem.

It was an internal short in the thermostat. That's what took me so long to find it. I would check all the connections and the dryer would work properly. I just assumed that was the problem. Then in a few days it would be out again.
