hi, i have the first gen. neptune washers. ma 14, the problem i am having is the machine stopped in the wash cycle. the drum has water in it and when i try to run the test mode all that happens is the select cycle light flashes. I try to select a cycle and nothing...... i replaced the door lock switch and still nothing. any tips???????????????? this one is really bugging me!
Its either your pump or the off balance switch which is at the bottom center when you take the panel off. Sometimes one of the wire connections come loose. In regards to the pump i had mentioned in one of my last postings that i found a penny stuck in the pump and the rubber check valve came off and clogged the pump wheel. These are the most common problems. Try that and get back to the board.
Good Luck,
BWJR
Actionjackson,
By the way the thread is called the Common Neptune Problem. Just a few line below the one you posted. Let me know how you make out.
Thanks,

First lets figure out which MAH14 you have? The original 14 had an additional door switch that the door hit when it closed in the top left side of the door shroud. Part # 22002046 White or 22002047 Almond, price about $3.50 list.
Check that switch out. You stated you changed a switch out, which one?

Action,
You didn't answer the most important question. Which switch did you replace? Since you state that you do not have the shroud mounted door switch I will assume you have the plunger type door switch mounted in the latch assy. Did you check/ replace that switch (left side) or the door locked sense switch ( right side).
Keep in mind that you may have a bad computer. If you know how to get into help mode then check to see if the small circle on the display comes on when you close the door.
If you have another washer it may be easier for you to just swap computers and see if the problem moves.

Action, all the parts for the latch assy are available individually.
First of all do not use the same switch for the right side one.
Use the same switch as the check switch for a older toploader. Part # 207166
The other one is the same one as a door switch but I will have to research the part # if you would like. The redish wax motor 22002119. Of course they don't want to sell you the individual parts, they want to make money off the whole assy.
If you need any other part #'s let me know.

YES!
With any new product there are always problems. Maytag has come a long way with the Neptune but they are not there yet.

We bought 21 mah 14's in 97. 6 are still in use, the rest dead and buried. Not a good purchase at all!!!!!!!!!!
Kitty,
Specifically what problems did you have that you lost 16 out of 21 machines? Also how many turns a day were you getting. I currently have 15 neptunes, of which 6 of them are the 14's, which I have owned for almost 5 years with no major problems.
Am I just lucky?
Thank You,
BWJR

The bearings, the door switches, the pumps......the list goes on. We did have the Maytag Regional service man come and do the bearing jobs and that got some going for a while. They ended up being more trouble than they were worth. They averaged between 4-6 tpd
Kitty,
Were these the first Neptunes that came out? Was 1997 the original year. I bought my 14's in May 1998. No problems other than minor switches, Pumps, etc. No bearing jobs. Thank God.

Yup, 97... at the introduction of these machines......Sure wish we knew of this site back then! I have heard great things about the 21's. But problems such as we have had must have been an issue, one that was well known and as it seems, improved upon. Manufacturers should be required to stay abreast of how their products are functioning well after their original testings. Washers should have recalls similar to cars, this would certainly avoid some bitching about certain manufacturers and their practice here in print, in front of 100's of laundry professionals!
The neptunes we purchased sucked, and that is putting it nicely. We paid top dollar and maintained the 21 machines, rather unsuccessful. THe machines are currently ou of order with many warrant work problems, we did have a complete overhaul that should have helped the machines, but they did not hold up well at all. Not just one would go out, but two at a time. These machines were a huge headache. Im sure Maytag has improved these machines, I believe mistakes can me made, they could have simply contacted us with a list of their puck ups
along with a schedule to fix the issues immediatley! We we lucky and had the regional service man come and lead Dave to repair many tubs and seals. It was unfortunate that the other issues keep the machines in the cemetary But Id stay Don't buy one, if you don't take a might big look.
Kitty,
If i were you I would invest about 15 min. and a 37c stamp to write maytag and copy the CEO. Tell him about this web site and so forth. He may do something on your behalf.

The problems are dead and buried with the machines, the lesson is all hindsight now. We should have done a majority of things differently regarding the life of these machines. We constantly received the same response when questioning the problems we were seeing. All our problems fell on deaf ears, with the exception of the service rep, however, all of his help was not enough to keep these machines in service for a reasonable time period afterwards These particular machines never lived up to the Maytag reputation. I believe the Maytag washer is a great washer, and the reputation of Maytag has always been a good one. THis particular model, being the introductory frontload softmount was released too early or was released less than perfect. As I said on a previous post, manufacturers should take the steps to ensure complete customer satisfaction. Testing, retesting and admitting error when necessary.

Kitty, your mat got about 5/6 years from these, though not THAT GREAT it is better then the 2 years I got out of my GE tops..
You bought soft mount mashines and ran the hell out of them. My calcuation is you took in around $16,000 per machine over a 5 year period. Take out the water.sewer costs and you have a great profit still.
The newer ones seem better, though I have no real experiance with the old ones.. The neptune is a top loader that is a front loader, a 5-6 year machine, anything after that is gravey in a busy mat. Yea, I know, tell me about your 15 yr old maytag tops.... don't make them like thay used to...
I agree with Pete, if you turn about 6 per day, the Neptunes will pay for themselves in 2 years.
