This was posted by Reynolds Smith a former CLA man and laundromat owner from Florida on the CLA site, I thought the information would be beneficial to our Florida members.

I would think Mr. Reynolds would be familiar with Coinwash.com, and would have posted this important information here himself, I must be beating him to the punch. It is a worthy peice of information.

"The west coast of Florida ( Tampa, St. Pete. area) is having problems with a pair of white males driving a white luxury import car. They are inserting a "card" into changers at unattended laundries. This card tricks the machine into dumping all of it's quarters. One multi-store owner lost over $7000.00 last weekend. If you live in this area please be on the look-out and report any suspicious activity to the police.I will post more details as I get them."

Interesting.
Could the same thing (in theory) be done to the smart card machines?
I'm not on the card system, so I'm not familiar. In other words do the machines allow the customer to insert his card and get money back. On the same note, I assume each machine has its own "code" so a card from another mat could not be used down the street. true?

One of my Rowes was attempted stringing a couple months ago. It got the contraption and shut down, I did not loose anything. I sent Scott from Suncoast Changers an email, here is his reply. You people in this area should be having him clean your acceptors anyway, and can keep up with the latest.

From Scott

Yes, theirs been a lot of "stealing" going on lately. Some experts who have
seen some of the video; say they definately fell it's stringing. As of yet,
there seems to be no hard evidence that it is any more than stringing, although
other proceedures can not yet be ruled out. We've spent the last few days
working on deterents.
Thanks- scott johnson
