I currently have a decent drop off dry cleaning biz. I've had customers inquire about bulk dry cleaning, priced per pound. From what I gather, the going rate is about $2.50 per pound. Delivered back to the customer on hangers, not pressed. Anybody out there with any experience ?

We call it bulk drycleaning. We were the last place to stop offering it as a service for regular clothes. It is a nightmare. People will get word of it and bring in a dozen silk blouses or ties for a few dollars. Like Ken said, the clothes never look good either, unless it's wool sweaters. We farm our dc out too, but only do clothes by the piece. We do still offer bulk drycleaning by the lb for household items, namely draperies. This is a good service for us, as most draperies are fairly heavy and generate a decent profit. We charge $3.00 per lb for this, and are charged $1.75 per lb by the cleaner. He hangs the drapes up right away so most panels hang out looking well. You need to explain to customers though what is being done, that they are not going to be pressed , but will be hung up right away. All drapes are processed together one day a week only, hence the word bulk.
