Has anybody tried the Depend-o-valve for the Wascomat Gen 4 machines? Better, worse? Does it really clog less? Is it reliable?
Thanks

My experience have been good with dependo valve. I have put about 4-5 of them in last 6-7 months. One of them had problem with motor. Don't remeber ever having to clean one of those.
It does not have any rubber boots or anything. It is one plastic housing with motor attached to it that closes this ball type valve.

For the long hall, The OEM valve is a better choice Outside of the motor and gear , the dependo cannot be repaired (broken shaft or bad ball seal. A nail or screw can cause dammage to the ball seal, causing it to leak down. When the application permits, we try to use only the flapper type of dependo. We rebuild the OEM wasco valve in the shop and install it as a unit with a core exchange. More work, less money than a dependo, and a better product.

They seem to work pretty good. I guess if you have time to rebuild than do so. I like to slap a new dependo in and be done. I may try to rebuild one of the old ones laying around.

Rebulding Wasco Drain Valve is not very difficult however, the biggest problem for me has been rusted and jammed screws. I can never take those rusted screws out and I don't think it is worth spending 3-4 hrs just to get those rusted screws out.
Almost always when I take the drain valve out I find the scews on the valve rusted and nearly impossible to take them out. I usually end up stripping the screws or cracking the plastic cover on the valve.
I tried both, rebuilt original and put new Depend -o -valve.
When I take the old screws out,I replaced with stainless steel screws.
Rebuilt original is a litttle cheaper,I saw a whole sale company's list ,a new Depend -o-vale is $50-60 but they won't sell to me.
If the price is right,Depend -o- valve is not too bad. Most dealers sell the for $90-100.

We rebuild these in the shop a few at a time. There is a trick to removing the screws....First , these screws, like all the others on a Gen 4 are not philips head, they are POZI DRIVE. Next, the odds are that most of screw heads will strip any way !!!t Cut a "flat on 2 sides of the round head (Dremel with cut off wheel) and grab the screw head with a vise-grip plier. Or cut a slot in the screw head and turn with a flat screwdriver. We don't repair any of these in the store. In the shop, We wire brush the metal frame and paint with cold galvanize. The plastic peices are cleaned and painted with an epoxy paint. The following parts are replaced : Motor and Gear, Harness, Diaphragm, Rubber ring, Shaft pin, Return spring. Replace all screws with hex drive screws.... All OEM parts...$ 105.00.....90 day warranty.... Most of our customers like to keep the machine origional.

Snap-on carried these many years ago. I don't know if they still do.
