I brought it up because there some similiarities between tanning salon and a mat.
I know the tanning shop two doors down from me is busy from early morning to 2am 7 days a week.

While there is similiarities there are difference in employees. You certainly want a higher caliber of an employee manning the front of a tan salon. As you want clean and neat ones at that. The tanning beds need to be cleaned after each and every use. There is a complete computer system that allows complete tracking of useage and inventory which is a great plus.
If your market is right stay with more than just a few beds, people hate to wait in line. You'll need employees that understand the concept of "turnover"
The tan store next to us is so busy, I kick myself as since BD folks owned the space before they came in, either I or both BD and I could have done a tan store ourselves. This guy is making a killing and has since double his capacity within the first year.

One half of my mat is rent space to a tanning salon.
Across the street is a women's university.
The salon is closing at the end of the month. It flopped.
I thought this would be a killer business at this location.

I have a tanning booth in 1 of my stores. It does pretty well. My manager used to work in a Tanning Salon so she talked me into it. It works the same way video games do, customers have time on thier hands while washing so they go ahead and tan. I don't do appointments it's first come first serve. It can be a viable business, but it's just like the Laundromat business, make sure that it's not over saturated and there is a market for it.
Another tip is buying good used beds or booths
